Hi everyone.
I recently posted about my four and a half year old neutered boar Rupert and his emergency op a few weeks ago with a trapped bladder stone in his urethra.
Before the op and his poorlyness he weighed around 1050g, today he's weighing in at 851g.

We went to vets last week for another check up as I was worried with his weight loss but nothing obviously wrong. His teeth look good and happily munching hay, peeing really well and his poo looks great.

He was on Baytril for a week along with Metacam, I was having to syringe feed for a few days after and was 'topping up' for a couple of weeks to make sure was getting enough.
He's now happy to have Critical Care from a spoon and has been having that am and pm, as well as half a Cystophan am and pm.

Was advised to carry on with the Metacam as he may still have pain/be uncomfortable after the op.
He barely has a scar and no longer seems unhappy when touched in that area so the last few days I haven't given any Metacam to see if that may be affecting him.

He seems really happy and much more his usual self, running round like a madman at free range yest. And much more fiesty when syringing meds etc. He seemed to be munching loads of hay yest as well as loving his (low calcium) veg. But still not too keen on the Vetcare multimodal food he's been having.

I'm at a loss. My epilepsy has got much worse in last couple of weeks due to not much sleep and the stress I think!
But am I expecting too much when his op was only 3weeks ago? He's obviously on a different diet now and not the youngest of boys so could this be a big contributing factor?

Never been through an op like this with my pigs, my past two boars and him were all neutered before I adopted them (have had him 3 and a half yrs). Is it just a very sore area and takes a bit longer to recover?

Any advice really appreciated, sorry such a giant post. Thanks.

If he's not losing weight then it's nothing that you really need to stress about. But if you're like me, I prefer my boars to be at least 1kg, for my one peace of mind and so they have a little bit of wiggle room if they lose any during illness.

Did he eat pellets before his op? I ask because one of my boars was 1.4kg until he had a bladder stone op. We stopped giving him pellets altogether and he went down to 1.2kg (over quite a while). He stayed at 1.2kg for a few years. My vet wasn't too worried about it and said the pellets were bulking him up.

Thanks so much for replies, sorry my mum's bday so been out for food!

Yes I'd def prefer him to be over a kilo, he was around 1150g for 3ish yrs and over the last 7months lost about 100 but I just put it down to his age really, although now thinking prob bladder issues although he never really showed a problem.

He's going up and down between 850-890 over the last 10days so I keep getting excited he's putting it on, then next day lost 15g again! My girly weighing more than him now!

He's been on Burgess pellets since I adopted him, was on muesli at the rescue before he came to me though. Still have some at home and have been tempted to give him some but so worried about him getting another stone!

He had some bladder slurry flushed as well as the stone removed so I suppose that would have weighed something!

I just know they can go downhill so quickly so would definitely like him to have a bit more podge!
