We got a sow when she was six weeks from a local pet shop as we had tried for ages to get a rescue but here in northern ireland there aren't that many and are newly neutered boar was looking very lonely.

Anyway it turned out that she was pregnant. This had happened in the care of the breeder the shop tells me. She had a gorgeous litter of four-three boys and one girl. They are all four weeks old now. We are keeping one boy as one of our one year old boars (Eddie) passed away last week. But my heart is breaking because we have to bring the other three back to the pet shop tonight as if we kept them that would make 9 in total and we really don't have the space. And also my boyfriend is also worried about having so many.

But i was watching them all last night in tears as I feel like I am breaking up a wee family. And also really worried about who they will go to. I rang the shop and they could not assure me that they would go off together as they do sale guinea's singularly. But they guaranteed me that they would go to good homes.
Really struggling with what to do.

What an awful dilemma for you. Do you have any friends that might want some piggy love?

Aww, I really feel for you..I have no idea what I'd do in that situation...I like Debbie's suggestion, do you have any friends or family that might want any piggies?

This is one of my main reasons for not breeding, I couldn't part with any babes. I think asking family and friends if they want any guineas is a nice idea.

I hope all works out for you and the pigs.

You could try rehoming them yourself by placing an ad? That way, you could check out potential owners :)

You can keep the girl too with the neutered boy and mum, then you just have a pair to rehome and as Lavenderjade said you can advertise privately and scrutinise potential owners for a pair of boys ?
How sad........

It's a pity but most of my family are in England or Australia. And I know for a fact that none of my mates would take them. Some of them have just had babies and the others are not animal lovers. They think I am the strange for having guinea pigs at my age (29)?!
we even had the measuring tape out last night seeing if we would build another c&c cage on top of the three wee have. We live in a apartment with no garden, just a patio. I think part of the problem is that after the loss of eddie last week, that the thought of having to go through losing nine more guinea pig's in time is worrying me. I really didn't realise how upsetting it was to lose a pet. We lost a dog to old age when i was a teenager and you forgot how sad it is.

Pig lover, I was thinking the same thing also. But not 100 per cent about putting an ad in here in Belfast. As I don't think that many people here respond to them as the big pets at home stores and the like are so popular. I really just want to keep them all.

Well I kept one male and one female from the litter and brought the two boars back. Shop owner told me she would only sale them together and right enough they werer only allowing some of the male to be sold as a pair.
