Hello everyone. Brand new member and first time poster.

Me and Jess owned 3 little piggies, 2 bought in Feb 2017 and 1 bought in Sept 2017. All girls named Jack Bauer, John Mcclane and Denny Crane.

For about the last 2 weeks, Jess had noticed someone sneezing every now and again and we didnt think much of it - however yesterday John wasnt eating and she hid under the fleece almost all day.

Today Jess took her to the vet and we found out she had fluid on her lungs and had pneumonia. We were told she would stay at the vets for 24 hours and be given antiobiotics. Whilst at work, Jess called me and told me about 2 hours after she left the vet, they called her and advises John had gone into cardiac arrest and she passed away.

I went to the vets at about 930pm after work and sat with my little John Mcclane for about 30 minutes crying. My poor baby has gone.

She was only 18 months old. Its so unfair.

Her and Denny Crane were inseperable (Jack Bauer who is 1 week older than John seemed to not be as close with little Denny) - and I'm so worried now that its just the 2 of them that little Denny Crane may become sad and feel lonely.

So now we own 2 little piggies and we just, want to learn from our mistakes and become better piggy parents. We are so sad that we didnt react quickly to Johns sneezing recently but we just, didnt realizd until it was too late.

We are taking Jack and Denny for check ups on the weekend to ensure they are both okay - i would really like to get a 3rd piggy again.

Id like some advice for our situation.

I look forward to any help provided.

Russell.

Don't blame yourselves sometimes it's very hard to know what's serious & what's not. Mine sneeze a lot but I put it down to the hay or they have eaten to fast. I always think it's better to go to the vet if you are unsure what's wrong.
I'm so sorry for your loss, sleep tight little John Mcclane.
Although maybe not appropriate at this time.

So sorry for your loss.
Guinea pigs are prey animals and hide illness well so it’s not easy to pick things up quickly.
Please don’t blame yourselves - you obviously loved her and will grieve for her.
You did your best for her.
Now allow time to grieve.
Jack and Denny will grieve in their own way and they will sort out the new dynamics of being a duo.
We’re here to support you in grief and learning- we’re all still learning

Welcome to the forum, I am so sorry it is in such sad times

You did all you could we lost a piggy to Pneumonia in past. there is nothing more you could have done, piggies being prey animals hide illness well as a defence mechanism. Please don't blame yourself.

Please feel free to leave a memorial for your little one in our Rainbow Bridge section of he forum

Jack and Denny will be okay I am sure they have each other and will adapt.

Sleep well little one

RIP John Mcclane
