So the inevitable happened today… we lost a pig. He was 4. We are now left with his brother, what is best thing to do? We won’t get anymore pigs after these 2 so do we wait for him to pass or re home?

Guinea pigs shouldn't be left without a buddy for long and a 4 year old piggie could still live for another 3 or more years which is a long time to be lonely. Speak to your local rescue it may be best to rehome or I have heard of rescues sort of fostering out Guinea pigs to buddy up with lone boars so you could give it back once your piggie passes.

I’m sorry for your loss.

It is always a tricky thing when you wish to end your piggy cycle. Sweet Potato is right though. At four years old, he could still have a few years left so really too long to be alone.
There are options so you can end the cycle and he can still have a companion - whether it is to surrender him to a rescue for rehoming or for you to see if they will allow you to foster another piggy to see out his life. Do speak to rescues near you and see if they can help.

I don’t know if you are in the UK, but this is a link to our approved rescue list.

I was in your position less than 2 years ago after deciding on a break from piggies. I knew taking in another wasn't an option for me as I'd just be left in the same predicament in the future as I get attached far too quickly. Luckily there was a loving home on this forum waiting. Someone I have had the pleasure of meeting several times and they took my last remaining girl in and I know she is loved and very happy
