Yesterday I had to have Grace my old rabbit put to sleep....as a few of you will know Grace was housed alongside Selby my guinepig and then I have Grant who recently lost his brother. Just over an hour ago I put Selby who is around 8 month old with Grant who is 5 month old....After a little teeth chattering and Selby keeps mounting Grant tho no fighting I think I am on a winner.I am hoping though I am sad that these two will get along. Do things seem to be going the right way as I have never tried to bond two guineapigs together.Selby is doing most of the mounting while Selby is squeaking some. Also Selby is trying to lay nest to Selby alot,Selby seems alittle disinterested. Will I be able to leave them alone tonight outside in the big hutsh which originally housed Grace and Selby?I have some picsif that will help

Waht lovely boys! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them!

Make sure you have everthing in twos - bowls, water bottles, huts etc.. so they can't fight over them

should I be able to put them in the big hutch tonight or is it early days yet? I'd rather they go in there as it is such a big hutch.

I dont know much about boars but I just wanted to say how lovely your boys are! GORGEOUS!

^^^thanks for the lovely comment. Is it normal for one to keep humping the other so much.....will it be stressing Grant out.

It's not that unusual for one male to get a bit "fruity" with the other. You see this when you introduce a young boar to an adult male. That's when it's good to have a small cubby hole somewhere so the little one can get away if it gets a bit too much. When they are both adults, that isn't really an option.

So long as they aren't actually getting violent, it's probably okay - if a little embarrassing :red You may find after awhile, the roles reverse. It's just something that happens from time to time.

Sorry to hear about Grace, but fingers crossed Selby and Grant will be happy together.

Just a little update....Today is their first day in the hutch.....Everything was disinfected and placed I 2 of everything in there ...thanks for the advice all of you Special mention to boureki. So far so good here are a few piccies enjoy

And just a quick sneaky peek 5 mins ago

ive had to seperate the boys....Selby got a little too rough this morning and little Grant as a cut at the side of his mouth. So looks like I now have to guineapigs lonesome.:(

So sorry to hear this, mybe try housing thm next to each for a while.
I did that with Eli & Chesnut so they could chatter and then after a while i put them in a run together and they just seemed to accept to each other.
Yes there is teeth chattering but thats only after Chestnut has got too fruity and poor eli goes through it.

I've sent you a PM :)

Sometimes the rough and tumble can get a bit out of hand and cuts can be accidental which happened once to my normally happily living together boars. It may be worth having a go at a trial separation, but make sure they can still hear, see and snuggle through the divide if you can as they will still need each other's company. It may just be that they need a little time alone.

Hang in there :)
