Feeling a bit traumatised as one of my Guinea Pigs, Daisy passed away very suddenly yesterday. Went to work and she seemed right as rain and got back and she was dead. This was one of the ones I got from a colleague and for some reason I thought she was only two or three but my colleague confirmed she was at least 4 yrs old. It is just a shock because she was the liveliest, hungriest of all of mine and no apparent reason for her death, can only assume it was a heart attack or other natural causes.

Aaw thankyou Chief Guinea Pig, its funny how you get so attached to them, I don't think some people understand, that's why its nice to come on here. I had only had her two months bless her x

Thanks Kerrie74, now just got a lonely one pining. Will have to work out the best arrangement with my other two or try bonding her.

Thanks Flutterby. Can anyone advise what they do with their Guinea Pigs when they pass? I gave Daisy a nice little burial in my parents garden but I am thinking they might run out of space at some point and my garden is small. Do vets offer cremation?

Vets do offer cremation for most animals yes. Or you can search online for a cremation company to take them to them will do a private cremation for you and return the ashes x

Thanks, I'm just getting a bit worried because all my Guinea Pigs are 4 years old but hopefully the others have lots of time left x

I'm so sorry, what a shock.

My vets offer cremation, and it is done through a company that offer private cremtation with the ashes returned in a little casket.

Thank you, I will ring round and check with a couple of vets, its just such a shock when it happens, so I think it is better to be prepared.

The company my vets use is PCS. I have over 30 of their little caskets sadly.

Aah bless, that is one of the problems with Guinea Pigs, a relatively short life span, and the more you keep, the more you have to go through it. Its hard when its sudden but on the other hand probably nicer for the Guinea Pig than suffering an illness.

Sorry you lost your piggy:( It is always sad when they go, a loss only people with animals understand ,,hugs xx

I am very sorry for your loss! A sudden death always comes as such a shock, but it can happen to all piggies at any age due to a stroke, a heart attack or sudden acute heart failure.

At least she has had a decent lifespan and a good life with you, and she didn't suffer for long at the end. I am sure that she will live in your heart forever!

Aww god bless

That's very sad. It does sound like a heart attack or a major stroke. It is good from her point of view that she enjoyed good health and vigour right til the last, but a massive shock for you. I watched helplessly as one of mine died of what looked very much to be a heart attack suddenly at 18 months old, and you cannot prepare, it's just a huge and horrible shock.
Huge hugs to you, and all the very best of luck with bonding with the others.
Popcorn at the Bridge sweet Daisy x

Thank you Critter, it has made me nervous with the others as they are all the same age. However I guess I've got to get on with it. Sorry for your loss too, it must have been even harder to watch it happen.
I have posted on the illness forum this morning as I think Lily may have mites, so I am getting her checked out at the vets this afternoon. Unfortunately will put a temporary halt to introducing her to any others.
