A couple months ago, i separated my boys( mickey and carlos) due to carlos being so scared of mickey he wouldn’t eat. I had to put their health over my happiness, and separated them. Everything was fine until i recently adopted a 1 month old pig from a girl who couldn’t care for it anymore. I knew i couldn’t put them all together, but i tried. it went horribly with them all, but The new baby ( oliver) and carlos get along so well! They have a great bond and carlos is very happy with his new cagemate, my only problem is mickey seems sad. he still eats, drinks, and doesnt hide. Now though, he will bite on the bars where oliver and carlos are and almost make a whinning noise? It breaks my heart seeing it. My cage is huge and Mickey has a 5x2 cage and a loft where his hay is. I try giving him much to do, and he and carlos sometimes sniff/nip at each other through cage separation. Is this okay?

@natalieheep As he has so much space would you be able to adopt a friend for him? Even though he is timid you might find a boar friend for him, or you could have him neutered and find him a lady friend.
I can’t get another friend for him, sadly. He was fine separated until carlos got a new friend. I know many people have to separate their piggies, but i thought it was okay as long as they can interact with one another.

The answer to your question is really that he needs a friend. Guinea pigs are not built to live alone.

Pixie & peach 1 in October
Clio 3 in April
Nelly 3 in March
I have had problems with introducing new piggies to nelly she was very violent so what I did was split the room into 2 and every night I would pick nelly up and the new piggy, I cuddle with them both at the same time and gave them their favourite treats and whenever I catch nelly not being violent I’d stroke her make a fuss of her, I’m no pro at guinea pigs but it’s worked every time it took a while but we got there
