I just read on another forum about someone who has a guinea pig which has a tumour (doesn't know whether it's malignant or not) and his mum will not allow this person to take the piggie to the vet for treatment :(
What's worse is he asked advice on what to do and everyone, bar one poster, told him the pig should be put down 8...
I don't know what the person ended up doing in the end but it just makes me so sad that there's a poor animal out there being denied the treatment it needs because of the fact 'it's just a guinea pig and doesn't live very long anyway'
I am no expert, I'm not perfect, but if I think there is something wrong with my piggies they are off to the vet and that's the way it will always be. Also why should the answer be it's kinder to put him down? They know nothing about the guinea pig at all and that's what they say :(
Anyhooooo, rant over lol it just gets my goat to read things like that, I'm far too attached to my boys already and just got cross! :x

Here in the United States, that's how most people view guinea pigs, as just guinea pigs. It makes me so mad grrrr I have to drive an hour away to a vet, just because most vets here don't treat piggies. They are viewed as a "responsibility pet" for young children :( I've been made fun of a lot just because I really care about my piggies.

Denying the piggy vet treatment is cruel though. :( Sorry, went on a bit of a rant myself there :red

I think you'll find that's the view of a lot of people :(
If my piggies need help then they get it, even if it means my credit card coming out.
It's sad really that people still have this view, i'f it dies it dies it's only a g/p and I can replace it for £15/£20' grrrr.

:( I think thats terrible can he not pay his mum back for vet treatment? :(, as said in my post the other day i was laughed at for taking my hamster to the vets :( I think no matter how long they live for, or how small they are, they shouldnt be denied access to a vet just because their a small animal, and considered a 'childs pet' (i dislike that phrase).

If he is in pain and suffering, and the mother is not allowing payment for treatment, can the poster not contact a rescue or go to the pdsa? :(

Its so sad when you read about these things, and i feel so much for the poor baby. x

So many people think that the only option is to have them put to sleep...Because they're "just a guinea pig." I hate it. I've even had a vet say to me (I never went back there, don't worry!) that "There's nothing you can really do for a Guinea Pig." and I was like "Well, that's a lie."
I said it before and I'll say it again...Smaller animals do not get the respect they deserve. I don't get it, I really do not understand it. When you have a pet, regardless of what animal it is...You take on the same responsibility as you would if you had a child. That animal looks to you to feed them, give them water, give them treats, cuddles, keep them warm and safe...And seek the treatment needed when they are unwell.
If you aren't prepared to do that, especially as a parent getting a pet for your child...Then you shouldn't have the animal in the first place. It's so frustrating grrrr

Even my dad said I'd be better off putting Arnold to sleep than paying all these vets bills! Oh, did I ever tell him off!

I just literally cannot understand why people don't treat their animals properly. If you don't care about them...Why have a pet in the first place? If you think of it as "only-" then you shouldn't be getting a pet :(

And I'm done. Sorry {:|

Sometimes I think I love animals too much...But I don't think that's a bad thing.

:( i was laughed at for taking my hamster to the vets :(

I was laughed at as well when i took my hamster. Does it matter about size?

I hope the pig was taken to the vets in the end! :(
And i think if his mom agreed to have pigs her responsibility is to takethem to the vets when its needed.

I firmly believe with any living thing you choose to have responsibility for (animal, baby etc) deserves all or you don't have them simple. mallethead I just had a £200 vet bill for Snoopy's tests yesterday (xray, ecg, blood tests, ultrasound, teeth check huge bottle of Baytril, huge bottle of Metacalm,) as he stopped eating and the vet checked everything TO FIND THE PROBLEM and a SOLUTION in one go. (It is a pancreas infection he is pretty sure). I told my mum and she said 'well if its the pancreas it's not good' (sort of in the tone suggesting i should have him put to sleep) I said 'don't be silly i have antibiotics, pain relief, syringe food and a very attentive vet (he said if he was not eating by today to take him straight back to intensive care). lo and behold he is eating again today and almost back to normal, the meds are working and hopefully the infection will be cleared and he will be ok will take time but that is the Solution. My point is most vets and people can't be bothered to look. Ok the tests cost money but no more than a dog/cat and i think he was very good value. Same with my 2 heart pigs, weight loss, no other symptoms, test were done and they are here almost a year later and normal. Meds cost me £10 every 3 months!! Some people can't alway afford stuff I do understand but then they need to be responsible and get help or give them to someone who can! Very bad attitude to pass on to your kids. Gives them no sense of responsibility or respect for other things. grrrr

Ho awful :( I hate the attitude of some people. People shouldn't be allowed pets however big or small if they are not prepared to pay for vet treatment.

How does the boys mother even know the pig has a tumour if he hasn't been seen by a vet and what kind of example is she setting? :(
