After treating my girls for mites at the vets' 2 weeks ago, Scout still has a large scabby patch on top of her eye. I've been putting aloe vera on but it's still not healing well-is sudocrem safe for pigs or is there another one that's recommended? I think I may need to go back to the vets as it seems to be taking a long time to clear up :(
 
Sudocrem is safe, I have used it in the past. It will be tricky to apply so close to her eye though.
 
U can also use Lanacaine found in the 99p stores which is an antiseptic/anaesthetic. It's safe to use as I researched it online before using except don't get it into their (middle) ears as it will cause serious problems (same with humans). Sudocrem is good also but is super greasy & difficult to get off. Personally, I wouldn't use it near the eye because of this as it could get on the eyeball and may cloud the vision plus water will not take it off (unless u use detergent/swarfega - but doubt this is safe for eye use). Remember to only use a speck/very sparingly!
 
Leucillin, it is a spray. Is safe near eyes, ears and mouth. It is £12 a bottle but lasts ages, I have use it on bites on a rescue piggy I got. I have used it to flush out an abscess my dog had, it is very effective and wounds heal quickly when applied.
 
It's not fungal is it? I've never seen mites affect piggies' eyes at all & if it isn't clearing I would get them back to the vets for a check up in case it's fungal :)

Vets it is tomorrow. Going to ask to see a different vet from before as he was convinced there was no signs of fungal and just treated them for mites. Rather disappointed as it's one of the forum recommended vets :(
 
Do you have a picture? Helen is very knowledgeable with fungal issues, my concern is fungal usually (But not always) starts on the face/nose/eye/ear area & they can have fungal & mites at the same time unfortunately .
 
A picture would help, I know you have another thread though and I think Wiebke has given you some information.
