Safe wild weeds/plants you can feed your piggies

Wild grasses/crops

Their are hundreds of different grasses and crops available and all are safe to feed. In the photo is oat crop and piggies love it due to its sweet taste, however should not be a main stay hay/grass for them. I often pick these crop type grasses from edges of farmed fields after a harvest or where the crop has grown onto public footpath ways and is unlikely to be used. Never take crops directly from the private field, only from edges or after harvest.

Silverweed

Appears June/July time and turns a silvery colour later in the summer. Yellow flowering. Can be enjoyed as part of a mix of plants.

Cranesbill

There are many different species of cranesbill that can be fed safely, this is one of them.

Hedge bindweed.

This can be fed with no issues. However field bindweed should be fed with care as in large quantities could be toxic. Be carful to identify which one. Hedge bindweed is larger flowering and often white or very pale pink striped.

Herb Robert

A small modest plant up to 50cm tall, small pink flowers. Has a aromatic smell when picked, said to repel mosquitoes.

Knapweed

Has thistle type heads (but not prickly), offer in small quantities.

Chamomile

You can also buy this in many garden centres to grow yourself. Unmistakable with its daisy like flowers and fluffy like leaves.

Hairy bittercress. A difficult plant to photograph as long and spindly.

Archangel. Related to the nettle family, non native to the U.K. but safe to feed.
