I was wondering what the best kind of Woodshavings are for guinea pigs, I want to try out a couple of different bedding options until I find one I like. I also want something that will last a couple of cleanings and I can’t really find large bales of safe Woodshavings, the only ones I’ve found are very expensive and don’t come in that large of a size.

Don’t have any recommendation on brands but always try and get dust extracted ones

Hey. I have just today stumbled across something better and I think cheaper. Let me take. A picture for you. It is dust free , scent free and it's hemp chippings. Similar stuff

I’ve saw that on amazon, I think I’m gonna give it a go because it looks pretty good. Thanks for the suggestion
Only thing is. I don't know if it could cause bumble foot, you will probably need to research more into it. I have just started using it for my gerbils. They suffer with allergies in woodshavings.

I second the aubiose recommendation. Otherwise I wasn’t happy with pah woodshavings when I tried them. I did like snowflake woodshavings though.

The snowflake ones used to cause my gerbils noses and eyes to weep red liquid. It's not blood but gerbils eye and nose fluid stuff is bright red. Weird

Yeah I’m going to give both a try. I’ve only had my 2 boys for 2 days, and I don’t know if they’re getting on together, there’s usually teeth chattering and chasing around the cage at night and sometimes little fights, they only last for about 2 seconds but I’m just worried. I don’t want any of them to get hurt or anything. Any advice?

snowflake supreme shavings are good, soft and kilndriedi i prefere snowflake softchip,it is very similar to aubiose.ive not experienced any bumble foot.you need approximately 1 inch of bedding to allow the liquid to absorb at the base of the bedding.if you need to get bedding delivered try Time FOR Paws website ,because delivery is free if you spend 19 pounds or more./

@SkyPipDotBernie lovely to have you back again! Missed having you around. :btt:

I tried aubiose and found it very absorbent but quite messy and it didn't work for me. I went back to washable puppy pads and hay cos this works best for me. A lot of members use fleece bedding. You'll find what works best for you and your piggies after a while.

Yeah I want something that looks nice but something that’s also practical for me, I started on fleece but I really don’t like it, it just gets too messy too quickly and it doesn’t have great odour control. I’ve just got some Woodshavings from pets at home today, hopefully that’ll be better. Fleece is also really hard to spot clean, I’ll spend about an hour cleaning it each morning and it’ll still look messy.

Hi
I started off putting my 2 boys on wood shavings mixed in with Carefresh bedding which I found to be very absorbent however it was really messy and I was totally fed up with the trail of wood savings throughout the house.

I now use vet bed with puppy pads and newspapers underneath and I absolutely love it no smell and no mess :yahoo:
