so, Mr Grimes has passed away - we bought him on Wednesday last week (so we've had him for 8 days) and he was about 6 or 7 weeks when we bought him.
Now, I'm presuming that guinea pigs are covered by the sale of goods act (as I know puppies are) so would I be right in thinking I can request a refund or replacement from PAH. Obviously it sounds really heartless but I don't consider a piglet that lives for 8 days out of an expected lifespan of 6+ years once it's been purchased to be 'fit for purpose'.
Has anyone been in a similar situation and had a successful outcome from the petshop?

Sales act no idea sorry. Did you manage to get to the vets? I saw another post by you and you said you were taking him in as you were worried. If you did take him to the vets take the vet receipt with you to P@H and only speak with the manager not the assitance. Guineas can hide illness very well and its not untill they are on the downward turn near the end that we humans notice their sick.

If you have your receipt you will be able to get a refund or replacement. Personally I would get a refund. I have had this not with a deceased pig but I got Cuzzy from P @ H last July and he had mites. P @ H paid for his treatment. P @ H will replace or give a refund on any animal that is ill or that passes away within a two week timescale.
I really think your piggy had some kind of genetic problem his symptoms where very similar to Cuzzy's who did pass away in November without really knowing what was wrong so I assume it was genetic. It's very sad and frustrating not knowing what was the cause.
I would let your other pig settle and maybe take him to a rescue to pick his own friend. Maybe with him being a young'un an older boar may take a shine to him.

Thanks for that I've got 3 very, very disappointed children and a very unpleasant task for tomorrow. Been a long time since I've been to a funeral and now there's 2 in a week - have got to drive to Swansea next week for the funeral of the husband of a very dear friend - the kids want to have a proper funeral and make a gravestone for him.
I called the vet and he was really shocked that he'd died so quickly as he really didn't seem that ill when he was in there - more sad and depressed than actually sick but obviously that wasn't the case.
I'm going to visit the petshop tomorrow and get something sorted - if they've got a suitable adoption I'll think about it otherwise I'll get a refund and just spoil The Colonel for a bit while he gets used to being an only pig.
We went back to the pet shop this morning and said what had happened - the assistant manager was most concerned to heat the news and asked what we wanted to do (refund or replacement), we'd discussed this last night for hours and had decided that if there was a suitable piglet there we'd take a replacement.
Well, we totally fell in love with a red/white fluffy beast who's approximately the same size as The Colonel. When we chatted further to the lady we found out that he was actually from the litter The Colonel and Mr Grimes had come from.
'Big Red' and The Colonel were introduced in the run (on the lounge floor as the grass is far too wet to have them outside) and there was a bit of noise but nothing that looked serious and within a few minutes they were eating from the same bowl and sharing a runner bean!
Sadly it now looks as if Mr Grimes was never 'right' from the day we brought him home - there's a world of difference between him and Big Red (who's what you'd call spirited!) and realistically he never going to make it.
The petshop has said that if the boys don't get on we can get a cage from them at cost price so we can separate them but we're hoping it won't come to that.
(They also offered to take The Colonel back and let us get 2 completely new ones but that wasn't ever going to happen!)
