Hi Helen,

A few conditions can cause this, ear mites and fungal conditions to name two. Normal eye secretions spilling over can also lead to hair loss around the eye, so if the eye has appeared watery this could explain the hair loss.

Worth cleaning her ears IMO, I use Otodex Veterinary Ear Drops (for cats and dogs...but fine for piggies too). I have a "new addition" who's had some thinning hair around her eye, it has improved significantly just since last night after having her ears treated. She does have hay mites in her hair (not the ones that feed off the blood, as I understand it) so ear mites isn't a stretch of the imagination!
