Here's my Guinea Pigs Sandy having a rub down...Just one question...Is that a happy sound?

a bit of an annoyed sound, maybe he thinks you're being a bit rough?

It looks rough but I'm doing very gentile........

It is a happy sound when my own pigs do it. Just happy mutterings. I also have one pig who purrs - identical to the rumblestrutting sound, but more relaxed in tone and exhibited when the pig is happy and being fussed in a favourite spot.

it sounds like the same sound as two of mine do when mad,but the other three do it when contented rolleyesrolleyesrolleyes i think if piggy had a negative emotion, it would head butt you!

One of my wishes would be that guinea pigs could talk and let us know what they are thinking! Sandy sounds happy and she would not be still if she did not like it!

Or we could understand guinea talk....I agree wouldn't it be cool if they could say.."oh you that's the right spot mummy..."

Definately happy george does that! if you look up guinea pigs on wikipaedia there are about 10 diff sounds and they tell you what they mean. so far george has make about 5/6 diff noises each time I hear a new one I listen to the sounds then see which one he is doing.

So far I have identified a content noise (stroking) 2 diff excited noises (you can even tell which one is more excited) and two i'm not very impressed noises one being the rumblestrutting noise which is def when he is not happy as does it sometimes when he has run off and got scared & once when I fished him out of his cage for a stroke & he wasn't in the mood (think it was nap time!)

You may need to download a program of wikipaedia to listen to them as it is a strange file type (.ogg)

Have fun listening (I did)

My boar does it when he is content... I do love the sound of happy piggies...:))

Mine makes that sound when she's happy - definitely not when she's not happy. She makes a screeching noise (not a wheek) when she's not happy with something I'm doing. There's a definite difference.

happy sound here as well. its like they're just muttering happily to themselves. adorable.

oh and playing that video started on of my piggies off talking back, x):))

its a happy sound in my experiance as mine do it and love to be cuddled but when they want you to stop they will normal nudge your hand away, he luks pretty happy to me!

I know what you mean when I first got george I filmed him squeeking whilst I was stroking him. I then played it back to see if it was ok and he started squeeking back & his video'd self it was really cute. Haven't played it to him since as don't want to confuse the poor mite! :))
