Saw this on facebook, opinions please.

Belle now happily shares a huge wooden hutch with 4 boy Guineas!' <--These are captions to some of the photos).
I back you 100% too. They should not be let in a run together, let alone housed together.

Ive just looked too and have seen the photos. How can she say that she "rescues" guinea pigs if they are just put in with rabbits. She also has a rabbit she's rescued that she is going to give (alone) to a kid as a birthday present. Odd
 
Well I always try to see both sides of the story, but after further investigation it seems like a group of breeders! & her guineas & rabbits do live in the same hutches. I feel silly for giving her the benefit of the doubt now :(
And the most annoying thing is she knows it's wrong to do or she wouldnt be lying about doing it!
 
Sorry but you only have to see the mess that poor Merrick is in to see what damage rabbits can do to guineas.

Suzygpr is currently treating/nursing a piggy that very nearly lost his life due to a rabbit bite turning nasty and causing a vey large and very serious abscess.

It is irresponsible and downright bloody stupid to keep buns and pigs together in the same cage.

Don't worry about it. The thing I don't like the most about the whole thing is that she lied! I'm not saying that lying is okay (I don't like it AT ALL), but she's clearly not smart enough to set her photo album to private. People will find out she is lying and that will do more harm than telling the truth. Plus she doesn't have to be so B****y about the whole thing. I think that it was just a complete over-reaction on her behalf. Karina apologised. She should have accepted it and dropped the subject, but instead she chose to make a scene. IMO Carolyn is the one who was trying to get 'a bit of much-needed attention'. Karina can be accused of making herself 'look a geek!', but at the end of the day she was right, and surely looking like a 'geek' is better than putting your animals in danger by housing them together when they clearly shouldn't be.

Sorry for that little rant. Lol:))

Absolutely nothing! I'm quite a bit of a geek myself. I was just using the comment to point out that they can think of her as a geek, but it still doesn't change the fact she is right. Being a geek has nothing to do with it. IMO it's pretty much common sense re. the food and housing of rabbits and piggies etc.

I know, I was saying that in response to the lady on facebook who used it as an insult. Seems like a pretty lame insult to me.
 
I hope nothing ends up happening to those poor piggies housed with rabbits. Disgusting how people do this.

My boar Romano was housed with rabbits as a baby and because of that he always does this weird little rabbit nose twitch. I'm just glad he was never hurt.

Don't know how people can just disreguard the safety of their animals. :(

Oh right.mallethead Haha. I was worried I was going to offend somebody with my little rant. I don't think I'm very good at wording things most of the time. Lol

LOL! It's pretty much impossible to offend me, thought I get in trouble a lot by saying offensive things and not realizing other people are more sensitive than I am and do get offended. mallethead
 
Eeek there's some worrying comments on that group! The lady we've been talking about has posted a pic of a heavily pregnant 14wk old guinea! & another member has commented saying 'hmm mines 13wks & still not pregnant and they've been together a while' ! :x I'm speechless! :(

Thats TERRIBLE! I was thinking of joining it, but after reading this I think I better not. I am COMPLETELy AGAINST breeding guinea pigs since I've seen what it does to them (I had a piggie who got pregnant when she was a baby. She lost all her babies after having a c-section :( )

I was going to mention this - The stuff this poor piggy has had to deal with just because someone had no sense! It is a prime example!
 
To be honest my personal views stand at Guinea pigs and rabbits should never be allowed direct contact with each other without something between them- so personally I think Karina was right in moral. To me it is way to much of a risk and it isn't even the point of being able to watch behaviour because the majority of Pigs hurt by rabbits are done so through accident- the rabbit may love the Guinea pig but one loud noice could easily mean the rabbit jumps in shock (as it should do) and hits the guinea pigs and I think we can all assume who is gonna end up hurt. Don't get me wrong my sister's bun is allowed to free roam round the garden whilst the pigs are in the run and if they choose they can interact but I wouldn't ever want to let them near each other without that metal separating them.

However, I think Karina went in a little too strong in this situation- people get very defensive about animal care especially when they think they are being criticised. Unfortuanly (in my opinion) keeping pigs/ buns is still common practise to some people and some will happily argue that it is fine until the sun goes down just because they've been lucky and had pairs that never had any problems. I think the best way is to go in with caution- start by asking questions to make sure you do know what is going on, then maybe go in with a warning or personal anecdote- tell them of something you read about a rabbit attacking a guinea pig (not a hard story to find if you do look for it). People can't get nasty and making them aware straight away you aren't criticising them generally works best. Regarless, never any need for some of the things Carolyn said- the Internet suddenly gives people the right to call others anything they want :{.
 
Omg just read the rest of the posts of here (sorry only thought there was one page :))) and obviously it's not just this conversation- she seems like a bit of a bully- the sort that thinks she knows everything so doesn't listen to other people's opinions and improve herself as things move on :... It's sad these sorts of people are looked up to. One thing that makes some people so great at animal care is that even after years of doing the same other thing they are happy to see things can and do work better a different way.

Honestly? I'd leave the group - they are being very rude. I agree that perhaps you were blunt, but it didn't warrant the level of rudeness directed at you - you clearly had the animals' best interests at heart.

I'd start your own Facebook group, if that's what you're looking for - a least the it won't be some kind of dictatorship!
 
That's shocking

I'm no angel myself, my pigs and buns run together, but only the dwarves. my rabbits have been run around the pigs since they were babies so they're used to them, but aren't really interested in them, but my runs are about 20x10ft each, if not more, so there is plenty of space.
i'd never let my English in the same run as the piggies though as she was taken on as an adult after running the streets for months - i've no idea how she could react and a rabbit her size could do some very serious damage.

but i'd never house them together in the same hutch - it's just asking for trouble.

you can't change peoples minds until something terrible happens to them though, sadly :(
I did my work experience in a pet shop which was still happy to sell guineas and buns to live together and didn't sell a single hutch which was a suitable size for either a guinea or a bun.

i remember one day a customer asked me if a guinea and a bun would be okay living together, i said that i personally wouldn't do it as there's too much risk and they have different dietary requirements. i looked up and the shop owners eyes were like daggers at me, face like thunder O_O
but at the end of the day, the customer asked my opinion and that's what i gave them. i'm not going to say it's fine, going against everything i believe, just to keep the woman i'm providing free labour to happy!
