after all our discussion on sales vs rescue and looking for a young boar in Edinburgh I found this

Pets Looking For Responsible And Caring Homes

There are many posts on here with people looking for a dog, pup, kitten or cat. There are many animals that find themselves in rescue centres waiting for a home of their own.

There are many reasons why they are there, genuine circumstances, a death in the family, unwanted as its past it's cuteness, got fed up with it so dumped it, stray, pup grew to big, dosnt go with the colour scheme/decorated, pregnant/baby (most used & ludicrous excuse) oh the list goes on.

With christmas coming up the nation of animal lovers that we are far from are dumping their pets to make way for the new kitten or pup & rescues & council run pounds are packed with dumped animals, these animals are coming in fast every day & rescues/pounds cant cope with the sheer number. The dogs that end up in council run pounds are being put to sleep as they have no where to go .....pups aswell as older dogs.

The breed that is being put to sleep the most is the staffy they are being overbred & thatmany that rescues are now refusing to take in & they end up in pounds waiting their turn to die after 7 days.

Give a much needy pet a new home from a rescue as theres many waiting for YOU. Whatever pet your looking for a pup, dog, cat, rabbit, hamster or bird young & old

Don't breed when animals are dying every day

Need I mention only one pair on there that was not for sale

Why would they advertise such a thing when they know they'll just be seeing many of the same animals back come January/February? I'm not even from the UK and I'm horribly offended by that.

I don't understand why you're so offended by it? Or perhaps you misunderstood it? I think the person who posted the ad was trying to discourage people from buying as so many of the animals will end up being surrendered to rescue when the kids get bored after Christmas.

I saw it too and hope that it got through to at least some people.

Did you not read the last line

Don't breed when animals are dying every day

He is trying to discourage breeding as well as explaining the fact that rescues are overrun and there are too many of certain breeds around

Good for him! If the message gets through to one person, it was worthwhile. I can't look on Gumtree any more as there are so many baby guineas for sale or adults for rehoming as the kids have got bored :(

Bravo! I have done similar on GumTree. I have Angel here at the moment but I'm not prepared to rehome her over Christmas anyway.

Wish more people would put ads up like this, it may help in some small way! :)

I am glad the message is getting out there. One dog rescue locally has a kennel bill of £8000 a month just for staffys! The situation is getting rediculous and I am happy that people are opsting such messages to make people aware of the problem with animals in general. Although we don't rehome over christmas I am hoping some poelpe are willing to wait and adopt in the new year :)

That's a brilliant advert - I hope lots of people read it and it makes even just the tiniest bit of difference. Even if it just impacts on 1 person - then it done its job.

It seemed to me, and maybe I'm just not reading it correctly, that they are encouraging people to give animals as gifts for the holidays, which I don't think is the best idea in the world. Pets aren't presents, from my perspective. But then I haven't slept for five days, so, like I said, possibly I'm not making proper sense of the wording.

Sorry, but I read it as pro-rescue - anti-breeding. Hope I read it right! :{

No they were encouraging people not to buy animals on a whim and to consider rescue. Which is the right thing to do. :)

Ah, yes... had a friend read it out loud to me and it made so much more sense. I think I better take sleeping pills for a couple days, if I'm making such stupid mistakes... wonder how long it takes to go completely insane...
