I cannot believe it's a month tomorrow since Patrick's operation, he really is a little miracle. I've had a little tearful reminition, I suspected the vet was calling me to say Patrick had past during the operation. Instead he has went from strength to strength. I have been given the most amazing gift after 11 months of pain, blood and opium pain killers, my little man is finally pain free and has been for the last 2 weeks! I do wonder if he notices or not :))!

This has brought a huge smile to my face. I am so happy Patrick is well and healthy. You are a wonderful mum to him and it is your love and care that has nursed him to health.
 
Well done for all the nursing you've done for Patrick :) it's nice to see him getting his strength.

Jo, it does me good to see him like this. And as for that bumshot, words fail me.

I went up to London yesterday for the "meet up" and he came with me on my badge - he's such a special boy.

What a journey you have both been on. Patrick is looking as handsome as ever!

Thats fantastic Jo! I havent been on the forum much so missed the thread regarding his Op....will go back and have a read.

So pleased that hes now pain free :(|)

It's pretty long, I'll sum arise, two stones appeared on Patrick's Xray - they where to big to leave. The vet called me when they had Patrick open on the operating theater Patrick's stones weren't in his bladder. The stones were in his ureter (tube between the bladder and the kidney) they where jammed he called to ask what I would like to do, the vet had never did such surgery but said it was a worth a shot so I decided to agree and allow him to remove the stones. Patrick was under GA for an hour and half. The stones where in the ureter the vet had to cut the tube and pop the two stones out then re-stitch it. My vet had never performed this surgery on a Guinea Pig, to be fair there doesn't seem to be a great amount of vet's who have done this operation on a Guinea pig I know of 3 including mine, it really was amazing surgery and now Patrick is completely cured no more blood, crying or straining.

It certainly wasn't routine P was critical for the first 5 days, as we didn't know if the stitch would have held but thankfully it did and P's still alive, had he been at any other vet's I do honesty think he'd be dead now.

He really is a little miracle!
 
Hiya, My Dory has just had his second bladder stone op - same thing as Patrick too it seems. The vet had to flush the urethra completely through and get the stone out of his penis poor boy. He has about 12 staples in his tummy and was under for a long time but is doing really well and it's so lovely to not hear him squeaking in pain when toileting isn't it. Hope Patrick continues going strength to strength

Can I ask what you will be feeding him diet and meds wise now to try and minimise more stones? xx

Patrick's stone was in his ureter (which is the tube connecting kidney to bladder) the vet couldn't flush Patrick's stones anywhere he had to make an incision in his tube it was extremely dangerous as if Patrick's tube leaked it would kill him - your getting your tube mixed up ;)!

Patrick's not on any medicines and gets a low calcium diet I'm relying completely on fluid and syringe between 60 and 100 ml's of fluids everyday - I use pearl Barley water as Patrick loves it.

It sounds like your little one has also been though an ordeal glad to hear he's on the way to recovery :)! x
 
Blimey Jo I can imagine that you were like a cat on a hot tin roof during that op :...

Amazing surgery, the vet did a great job.
 
ah yes the tubes were different :(|). Crikey poor Patrick! Bet he's loving it now though - what a little cutey x) xx

I didnt even realise it was Patrick.
