my pig has a scab on his ear that has been there for a few weeks now. I was wondering what could have caused it. He had lice a couple of weeks ago that he has been treated for could that of caused it? or could it be something else? thanks x

That could have been the cause yes :) Just guessing though......

I'm scared that my other pig has bit him thats all. They dont fight but have their little dominance things going on because they are both boars.

Wait and watch, don't bother trying to put any ointment/cream on the scab, leave well alone for now. It is possible that he has scratched himself or it could be a localised fungal infection. If the problem is still there in a few days then look for a non-injury cause and then treat.

Hi Poppy,

What colour is the scab, and has it grown in size since you first found it? Is the rest of the ear flaky?

It could be a number of things; it's just a case of identifying the cause of it!

it was a small scab on the corner of his ear that looked like it had had blood on it. Its gone now, but a little skin has come away where it had been. The rest of his ear is fine. I'm worried it could be mites or something? Appreciate the help x

From your description, it sounds like it could have been a bite from another pig. The fresh skin underneath the scab should blend in with the skin around it within a couple of days.

With mites/mange, the ears tend to be covered with "powdery" looking flakes, any scabs being white.
