Potential a fungal infection as that most commonly appears first on the face. A vets trip is in order to correctly diagnose and medicate. How many piggies do you have living together? You may need to treat all and will definitely need to observe strict hygiene procedures as it is very contagious even to humans.

Heres our sticky thread which is handy Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

I found ringworm scary but in all honesty once the medication is in place its fairly easy to get on top of

Hi and welcome!

Please see a vet tomorrow and read our ringworm guide for hygiene tips. Ringworm is the most aggressive and transmittable form of a fungal infection; you and other pets can catch it, too.
The easiest and most efficient way of treating it is with a prescription-only oral medication (itrafungol; active ingredient itraconazole). You may need to sign a consent form for it, as it is not licensed for guinea pigs although it has been successfully used for several years and is being the preferred treatment of all piggy savvy vets.

If you have bought your guinea pig from apet shop within the last 2 weeks, you can reclaim any vet treatment from the shop by presenting the vet bill with the sales receipt as exposure and infection must have happened at the shop. Unfortunately, many shops and breeders struggle to get on top of ringworm.

Thanks all. Will get him straight to vets tomorrow. We have two so likley both will have to be treated.

Please read our guide and follow the advice in there. It really tells you everything, so you can get on top of it once and for all, including how to prevent companions from coming down with ringworm to how to best disinfect (you will need a disinfectant that deals with fungal and not just the run-of-the-mill antibacterial disinfectant). There is only one that is proven to also kill ringworm spores - F10. It also tells you what to do with any fabrics (including the clothes you wear when treating and handling ringworm piggies etc.

The guide also shows you how a ringworm infection runs its due course - it will get worse before it gets better.

All the best! if you are disagnosed wth ringworm, it really pays to do it right. The tips in our ringworm guide have been learned the hard way; they are not overkill!
