Hi,

I got my little boy yogi yesterday. I was informed at the time he'd had an operation on his eye to remove hair follicles around it to stop irritation.
I know its silly but I didn't think to ask when it was.

I've noticed today he has a scab on his tummy, right where I'd say a human belly button is.

Do you know what this could be?
Would it be related to his surgery?

He seems healthy otherwise but I think he may be blind also.

Thank you

Do you have a picture? My baby has a scab near her eye and the vet suggested ringworm or mange. I'll attached a picture for reference

Ouch! That looks sore.

I can't get a picture at the moment he's still quite wary of me. Its quite small and black. It looks like it could just be pulled off but I dont want to hurt him.

I'll attempt to get a picture a bit later on.

I'm new enough to piggy ownership but I'm sure someone here can help! I'd say if you're very worried bring him to the vet if possible:D

Guinea pigs have belly buttons, too. ;)
Guinea pig body quirks

It is not uncommon that babies are born with entropion, inward turned eyelids. It is easily corrected, but can cause ulcerating eye infections and ultimately loss of sight from the scarring of the cornea if left untreated for too long.

Thank you.

I'm going to have another look soon, and try to get a picture.

I'm going to register him at the vet this week, I rescued him from pets at home (couldnt leave him there)they didn't give me much information but from what I can make out he has quite a few eye problems and has also just recovered from conjunctivitis. Hopefully the vet can go into more detail with me. He does have very sorry looking eyes - that's what made me fall for him.

He's lone at the moment as I have sows but the plan is to have him neutered as soon as possible and put them together.

Can you see what I mean about his eyes?

Those eyes would make you bring him home, he's lovely!

His eyes still look like they are drawn in just a bit. He is a gorgous rex or teddy cross!

Could it be a nipple? I remember the first time I came across one by accident on a fluffy boar (didn't realise they had them). Check and see if there's a matching bit on the other side. (I know you said it was where a belly button would be, so positioning might be wrong, and I may be completely off with this, but it just reminded me of when I found one and panicked)

I've taken a picture but its not a very good one, he wasn't very impressed.

Its probably hard to see but definitely feels like a scab, what do you think?

Quite worried about his eye now too, the vet apparently said he's over the conjunctivitis but its still getting a bit crusty and he's started to close it

A vets trip is definitely in order

We have a piggie who had conjunctivitis when we first got him, from that moment to now (2 years on) he always has crusty eyes, as long as its not weeping then it should be okay.

As for the black, its definitely not dirt? Or an old scab from another piggie perhaps?

Sorry, can't really tell from the picture. Hopefully your vet will be able to put your mind at ease x
