so cookie has had a supposed "scab" for several months now. I had the vet look at it about 3 months ago and we thought scab but it's still there hasn't gotten any bigger or smaller just stays the same. What do you guys think? She cries when I part her hair but that goes anywhere not just that spot but it doesn't seem to be bothering her it's about the size of a pimple or small nip which is what I thought it was.image.webp

It's hard to see from the picture but id take her back to the vet and explain that she's had it for months. To me it looks like an abscess with dried pus but I'm guessing it wouldn't be that as it would have burst properly by now

It's just kind of like a crusty lump like a scab. My exotic vet is out on maternity leave so I was hoping to have a direction to point the other vet in as he is open to suggestions but is not by any means really familiar with all the oddities of Guinea pigs

It's white a crusty like a dry scab

Has it changed in size at all? If not then I don't think it would be fungal as that would have spread. Maybe a sebaceous cyst?

my Ellie had a sebaceous cyst on her back/rump it would come up & i would clear it out when it got "ripe"
originally the vet thought it may be an abscess so put a needle in to draw of any fluid, nothing came out, he gently squeezed the area & some white cottage cheese type gunk came out (light pig-light gunk/ dark pig-dark gunk) No smell to it.
this was taken a month or so after the vet cleared it a little.
the hole area with the white bit in was where the needle was inserted, but this left a weak area to express the gunk without it spreading out under the skin.

the white dot/scabby area was dried up gunk, this would come out of the hole (never healed properly) as a hard scabby lump on top for the rest of the cottage cheese stuff to follow afterwards' was like squeezing a toothpaste tube :vom:

does this look like your guineas scabby bit? as Helen suggested it could be a sebaceous cyst like My Ellies.
she had hers about 2.5 to 3 years & it never bothered her much, sometimes she would have a nibble at it & make it bleed a little.

sometimes it needed clearing after a month, other times it would be nearly 3 months. have a vet show you how to clear it properly if it does turn out to be a seb cyst

hope these pics help?

Thanks for the photos. It is so much smaller than that it is not even pencil eraser diameter so maybe it is a cyst but it being so small maybe I'll just monitor it because I hate to mess with it and risk infection or spreading for something so small. Did the vet say it was important to keep empty? Or would it be ok to leave?

Could it be something like a little wart, which might look rough and scabby. I have to confess I have one myself in my hair which looks just like it.

Maybe if piggies get them idk but it's sounding rather benign so I'll likely wait until my exotic vet returns to have it checked

l have a pig that has had one of these for as long as l remember, it is a serbatious syst , it is self draining an need no maternance.
my vet told me it could me removed byt as she is an old sows best leave well enough alown ,
best not sqwizing it as it may damage and infect the suounding tisue

Well she doesn't mess with it most of the time so I'm not too concerned and I feel so much better waiting for a vet who knows what is going on, the worst part was prying her fur to get a picture she got so upset at me
