On close inspection of my 9 week old boar this evening, i have noticed that he has a scab around the size of a 1 pence piece, and it sticks out a little. :(

I dont know what could have caused this or what this could be?

I'm am going to take him to the vets tomorrow and get it checked out but in the mean time does any one have any ideas of what it could be?

Thanks
kimberlie

Is he on his own, or with other pigs?

He has been with another pig for one day, he was introduced yesterday!

I think the scab has been there for a while (i hadnt noticed earlier because i was leaving him alone to settle and not picking him up much because he was quite timid)

I dont know whether to seperate them now? Other pig seems fine, and they have bonded.

Hi Kimberlie,

Scabs like this can sometimes be related to mites - does he seem to scratch or have sensitive skin at all? Any hair loss?

If mites are suspected or possible, Xeno 50 for pigs weighing under 800g would be the better product than Xeno 450, aimed at older pigs.

No sensitive skin, i can feel the scab and he doenst flinch or anything, and i would say no scratching, just the usual.

Its in the middle on his back, slightly to the left.

Vets cannot see me today! :(

Could be a bite... When I found a scab on my pig it was on his side and it was a bite I would keep an eye on the 2. Hopefully someone with more experience will be along soon :).

Can anyone tell me if tea tree oil spray is okay to use on piggies ,sorry if this is in the wrong place

I stopped using Tea Tree oil on pigs about 10 years ago, I began to suspect that it may have caused the premature death of a small number of pigs.
