Okay so i've been a bit post happy these past few days, get this.

I bathed the girls today, gave them there baytril each, eyedrops, and parasite drops.

I was just measuring Nuggits hair because of a suggestion on another thread - but as i put her back i spotted a dot between Poppets shoulders, because the fur it damp from where the parasite spot on went.

There are small scabs, white-ish surrounding scabs, and mild fur missing. I didnt want to tug her hair to see if any came out, I'm thinking this may explain her temper lately.

Will the baytril they're already on (0.15ml once daily) help or do they both need something entirely different? Since Nuggit is long haired i can't find anything but i'd sooner treat them both..

Please do not lecture me on pet shop ethics, i'm fully aware, my mum bought the girls in desperation when the boys were stolen/killed.

Please tell me its not fungal....=[ she's a real wriggler, so i just can't get a good photograph sorry.

There is more scabbing, from what i can see no more than an inch in diameter but she's such a wriggler that i cant get a picture.

Ohh that looks very sore! I know that ringworms course scabs and hair loss? My guinea pigs had shampoo for it, can't be sure though! More likely to be fungal though

Aw hun, you have been through so much lately :(
I would seek advice from a vet to be on the safe side, it does look really sore poor baby.
Keep us posted with any news.
Hugs x>>

I've had a better look, she's very touchy - makes sense now poor gal =[ there is definately a white residue, I'm not tugging her hair, she is biting. Off to the vets.

Okay, so - apparently, it's not fungal mallethead I'm not kidding, this vet spoke to me like i was 15 not 22.

Not only did he DROP Nugget onto the table because she nipped him, he pulled a chunk of fur from Poppet's infection and then stated, 'Nah, it is parasites'. Pulled, and it came away very easily.
I had to ask him, to do a culture/swap which the results came back in like 3 mins. Then he says there were 'sweaty deposits' behind Nuggits ears :{ ugggh. I just bathed them, i've never heard of 'deposits' and i had to ask him to check if it were lice.

He pulled Poppet's damn hair out, she wont come near me now =[ i've been told to continue with the oral dose of Baytril for 10 days (if there is even ten days left in the bottle, which i mentioned, no top up at all despite my persistence), to rub sudocreme into the area because i asked about it, didn't give any reason why, just said to do it. Wtf.
AND he's saying to use the parasite gel i gave them after their bath, every day. mallethead When the parasite gel clearly agitated the area, as she has started scratching madly >_<.

What a horrible and nasty man. He sounds so cold. I would never go back there again. Poor little girl. I hope she gets well soon.

Kirst I'm sorry but that vet sounds like hes talking out of his whatsit!

Sorry to hear youre having to deal with this on top of everything else x>>

Are you able to take them to a different vet?

:)>>>I'd have yanked his hair out the prat :o
If you can find a better vet, obviously that's the road to go down. Maybe email Chrissy at Gorgeous Guineas with the pics of Poppits back, she will recommend something specific.

Hope little sweetie comes around for you, how terrible she was treated like that :(

I'm going away for 3/4 days with my OH (anniversary, 's planned it and paid bless him) so my mum is going to be keeping an eye on them both.
Not to sound pathetic, but i have £4 to my name and can't even utilise the PDSA because they wont cover since i'm currently on JSA. >_<
If there's no changed when i get back, and if my mum hasn't already taken them to another vet, then i think i'll just have to walk into a surgery, explain, present and hope for the best. If i can do some sort of payment plan for treatment, it'd be great because i start work in month!

Oh i will do, thank you!
Lizzie on here has also recommended getting some Sporal-D, so fingers crossed that'll come soon. I'll try everything, i want these poor girls to settle, not fear that i'm going to pin them down for eternity with medicines etc.
Is there an email address available for Chrissy on the site?

Oh god, i went to check on Poppet and there is this stonking raw, oozing wet bald patch now. I spotted this at 3/4 pm and already i know it aint stupid bloomin parasites. I can't quarantine her from Nuggit but i will set a devide across the cage again just for the next week while they're being treated.

My poor girl ='( i'm so angry. I really hope all this medication kicks in soon. Post pics in a mo. I knew this would happen, more fool me.

Girls have been separated. Not happy critters at all 8...

First, before vets just before 4pm

After vets, post Daktril (cant spell it without it infront of me)

This is from half an hour ago.

Thats the closest i can get without her wriggling away - its an inch across, a just over a centimeter up. UGGGH!

Oh my god take her to the emergency vet right now! I would not wait at all.

I genuinely honestly cant :( my mum has no petrol, she's had a few to drink, i don't drive, no money, i'm a walking sob story at the moment - my bank took my JSA off me as a charge for an issue last month where in short, the Jobcentre failed to notify me of something that meant i didnt get paid for weeks but my bills came out - exceeded my overdraft blah blah blah. I'm going away for 4 days tomorrow, it's been planned by my OH for months who i haven't seen in 6 weeks. =[ i just dont know what to do other than separate, apply ointment and feed her.

She's really lively, munching away, bouncing about etc, comes to my voice too since i applied the cream. My mum will take great care of them while i'm away, i'm just so shock that the patch has appeared. If it gets any worse my mam will have her the vets, but its money. I dont even qualify for anything animal wise, its disgusting.

Take her to the nearest rspca hospital. Sorry I know you will be angry with me but do you really want to go away when she is so bad? Imagine if something happens to her while you are away. This is far more serious then applying cream.

I don't qualify for either. I've just finished uni, and moved town too, so i have no idea where i am, my mother is drunk and in bed, i cant drive anywhere.
If its worse by morning i'll have to ask my OH to transfer my mum money to take them the nearest vet (and he's saved and spent a fortune for this break so he's not got much) - but she works in a very difficult job. I know it sounds like I'm putting up obstacles, this is the first time i've not been able to spend to take care of myself or my pets.

It is very difficult for you but I would think it would be much better to pay to get your little one seen by a vet. Such a shame you are not in London as I would get her seen myself. I am sure you would not enjoy a holiday anyway knowing she was so unwell. The poor thing must be in a lot of pain.

I wish i were back in Liverpool - i'm sure i'd be closer to some help =/ any major city would do, i despise Telford i cant get anywhere or find anything here.

She doesn't seem in pain, she's masking incredibly well. They're already on Baytril 0.15 daily as it is if that will do anything, i dont have any Calpol and i'd be too worried of subjecting her an OD. I really need this time with my OH. But i just had my boys killed hence the girls and i'm worried rightly, but a major part of me is overreacting.

I understand your want for me to get help asap, i want to too - but i am utterly penniless because of the bank this week. I'm not going to sleep >_<. I dont even have bus fare.

I know how you feel being broke. It totally sucks. I am too right now or I would send you money for her to be seen. The thing about guinea pigs is they hide things so well you would never know. Looking at the pictures her skin looks so sore and I expect it is hurting her. I hope the baytril is offering some relief.

Aww poor piggie, that looks very sore. Pigs hide pain very well, so you really wouldn't be able to tell if they were in pain. I hope your pig gets vet treatment asap.

God no i couldnt accept money, too proud - sooner sell everything i have, which is sadly either my laptop, or my pigs =[.
This has been hidden for two weeks, but it was only today that the patch appeared which is why I'm so taken aback. Her skin is raw. She's being such a brave sausage grrrr there cage had been heavily sanitised, scrubbed raw before they were moved in, neither of my boars had anything wrong with them, both were tip top in health. She's happily munching on my lap as i type, distraction for her i think.

This is why I'm so upset because i took her the vet and he says its parasites mallethead and gave me nothing at all to help her.

Can i use Sudacreme as well as Daktarin when she's already taking Baytril and the conjunctivitis cream?

Found a vet!
However, over the phone, they have said that the treatments i'm giving so far are spot on so its a case of letting them work, because the vet can only assess her and treat her the way i am, but to bring her in asap no more than two days from now max.

Gosh, i think i should go into vet nursing or something just so i can learn as much as poss lol - thanks for the help so far, i'll be checking her ever few hours but she's calmed down heaps. Fingers crossed.

The meds are not going to make it magically get better. Kirst has already taken her to the vets, there is nothing more that can be done, and an emergency appointment is not going to change that. Fungal always looks ten times worse when you start treating it than it really is.

Kirst, try not to give her too much of everything as that can be just as bad as leaving it. There is no point giving the baytril, as it's not going to do anything - it will not kill mites and it won't get rid of fungal, it may stop the open wound getting infected...but that's about it. Treat her with the daktarin, and in a few days if you can get your hands on some Beapher spot on (for small animals) use that to treat for mites as well. But you have to do them a few days apart.
It is one of those things which is going to look absolutely horrendous when the creams are working, but you just have to keep doing it, even for about a week after it's all healed up, just to make sure it doesn't come back.

Thanks :... its hell trying to give her the Baytril orally but it has to be done, they need it anyway because they had coughs (Nuggit mostly with a wet raspy cough).
These poor little girls >=[ that damn vet is going to have one nasty letter sent in his and his superiors direction.
Poppets shoulder is the same, i've left my mum directions, not that she needs them but I'm just worried. I'm appying the Daktarin but using a little Sudocreme mid day for the open oozing. No signs of fungal on the other wee girl, but its pretty impossible to tell with her being long haired and textured like fluff :{. I was told last night to apply a parasite spot on, I'm not doing it because thats exactly what irrtated and opened up the scabs yesterday.
I need to find a cavy savvy vet in Telford asap. *pheww*

don't put the spot-on directly onto the open wound...sorry if that's obvious! :) it goes between the shoulders like you do with a cat.

ahh...that explains the baytril then :)
