Hello,

I have not gotten a scale to weigh the pigs yet, they were weighed when we first got them then about a week later at vet. I want to make sure I get one because I will need for the babies/ weekly weigh ins. I am wondering what the best scale for the job is.

Yeah i just use my kitchen scales and set a casserole dish on top. pop the pig in the dish and he's easily contained for weighing :sly:

Cheap digital kitchen scales from the supermarket will do!

What you are measuring is a weekly (or in case of an illess/newborn babies a daily) change of weight, so you know when something is up before it becomes critical and can go on alert/see a vet as soon as necessary.

You do not need expensive super-duper scales like vets have (although your piggy may have a slightly different weight when being weighed at the vets).

I have a cheap digital scale that you can re-set to zero with a dish or whatever on it. I got it off Amazon
I use a little plastic house that the piggies love but which isn't suitable for them to have in their cage long term as it has a plastic bottom.

I Put the house on the scale and re-set to zero, then take the house to the cage, usher one piggy into the house, pop it on the scale and I get the right weight for the piggy. Repeat until all are weighed.

Unless, like yesterday, I forgot to zero the scale with the empty house on it. Weighed my first (and largest piggy) in the house and nearly fainted when it weighed 1700gs. Soon realised my error and had to deduct weight of house from total weight to realise she was still at her usual weight after all! Didn't repeat the error with the other 3 piggies!
