I've seen quite a few lovely pictures on here of pigs all relaxed in their fluffy hammocks. Well I ended up buying one yesterday (it was purpl fleece - how could I resist?!) but Herbie is scared of it. What height should they be from the ground? He sits under it, and wears it like a hat. I tried putting him in it but he got straight back out.

Do they eventually try it for themselves? Do some piggies just not like them? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sophie

I've never used a hammock myself but presumably if he got out with ease it is at a comfortable height for him and could be that he just doesn't like it, you know what fussy individuals piggies can be. Maybe if you put something yummy in there he might be tempted

Yes, I think I might have given it to the wrong pig, he's quite nervous anyway. I'll try it with one of the bold bossy sows and see if they like it!

Thanks

I made the girls a corner one of their cage and they hated it so I made another one but instead of a corner it is a rectangle and they love it. When it's feeding time they jump up and pop corn on it. I think the corner hammock looked too small and not secure enough for them even though it was big.

i have a corner hammock, they get on it now and again, i put treats above it so it will encourage them to climb in it!

They love their snuggle tunnel best, they use it as a hammock and go into the tunnel too.

i think it can depend on the pigs though, personally i would get a snuggle tunnel, THEY ARE FAB!

None of my piggies have had hammocks before. I don't think Cookie or Maisey would use it anyway. So i stay clear of them. They are already fussy about some treats, let alone would probably be with a hammock :))

Try to adjust the height so it's not too high and make sure it's stable and doesn't rock about otherwise your piggie won't be able to relax in it and will keep thinking it's going to fall out.

It will take your piggie a while 'til it wants to try it out. If it's been in the cage for a while, it'll want to know what it's doing there so will hopefully try it out.

I've put treats in my piggies cages, and they are left in there untouched for a while and then all of a sudden my piggie will try it. So it should be like that with your piggie and the hammock. :)

I agree with the last post. My piggies are always wary of new stuff. Wendy has just taken to using the hammock and it's been in there house about 2 weeks now! :)):)) Give them time and as said earlier make sure its hung securely so they feel safe in it.

Here he is, hiding under the hammock!

lol awww bless.

You could try putting some hay in the hammock, I did this with the pigs new beds, they will only go in them if there is hay in there! silly piggies rolleyes

ah bless! At least he is finding some use for it!

My Syd LOVES his hammock. It probably sits about 3 inches off the ground. He just hops in!

Try the treat suggestion. He may get used to it eventually!
