Scared of the big outdoors?!

Evening guys,

Sooooooo I put Rufus & Rodney out on the grass last weekend and they absolutely HATED it. Froze. Wouldn't budge. Not one nibble of grass.

I got them in October so they are totally indoor minded, obviously they're not used to the air blowing or the sound of cars etc.

I want to get them a run (yes I am STILL pondering over which one I like...) but I'm worried now that they'll not enjoy it & will be scared rotten! I don't want to give them a heart attack!

They'd get used to it wouldn't they? I've bought them a super cool tunnel & I'm going to buy them a wooden house like Harvey & Artie x) - but I'm stalling now because I hate to see them frightened!

Its normal for them to be scared at first isn't it? I mean they hatd my tv when I first got them & all the noises I make with the hairdryer etc & now they coulnd't give a stuff... so I'm answering my own question. I just want some words of encouragement! @)
 
My boys, Harvey and Artie, took four week for them to get used to the big outdoors, Artie still isnt too keen on the run, but i helped them get used to the outdoors by taking them outside for two ten minutes a day, then built this up over the course of a month.

I'd suggest plenty of hideys in the run so they have lots of shelter, (cardboard boxes work a treat whilst they are becoming used to the outdoors).

Cant wait to see Rufus and Rodney enjoying the great outdoors and lots of piggie pigtures of the two drool x)
 
Oh no 4 weeks?! Oh dear..... I've got boxes & things they can play in, and they have a tent -c they'll have lots of places to hide..... theyy just need mummy to click the buy button mallethead
 
Oooohh sorry :( It might be less for your boys they might like it after a day...Arties a stubborn pig! Hehee! :)) Awwww a tent...thats a wonderful idea...hmmmm.....:))
 
Hmm yeah Rodney is a total wimp. I wouldn't be surprised if they took a while... Oh yes they have their army combat tent don't they :(|) with that, a wooden house, a massive tunnel and a couple of cardboard boxes & paper bags they'd have a great time... I can't wait!

:(|) ooooooooooooohhhhhhh that tent is AMAZING :)) but I'm on piggie toy ban atm..:( piggie shopping is one of my favourite hobbies haha!:))
 
Firstly where did you get that tent it is fab! and in answer to your query, I put Zapp my boar in a run with a couple of pigloos and he stayed in them for the first week outside each day. Then I bought him a log cabin style house and put it on a piece of fleece folded so it was thick and he sits in there happily with his nose out the window. He also has a cardboard tube which I set across from his cabin. To my surprise the other day he came out and then went and sat in the tube and then ate some grass so he is getting use to the run, certainly stick with it. I use a run which is made by a local man and collapses so I can store it when I am not using it. Good luck and lucky piggies.
 
Haha yeah it's a pretty snazzy tent! I actually got it for my rats I had years ago, they absolutely love it! There are a few on eBay they're only about £6 or £7 I think. Bargain!

Oops, not helping the pigshopping strike am I :{

I have promised them a wooden house like Harvey & Artie so that and the run are next on my list! they're being a bit spoilt this month :(|)
