My guinea pigs cage is on a chest beside my mom's kitchen chair where she does crafts. She has a lamp she uses on the table and it stays on all day and every night when I turn it off for bed my guinea pig like screams. He never stops until I turn it back on then he's completely quiet. I think he might be scared of the dark and I've just realized it tonight. My mom told me I can leave the stove light on for him so he doesn't get scared but I figured he's nocturnal so maybe I should try and figure it out. Does anyone know any ways to try and make it so he's more comfortable in complete darkness?i

They are not actually nocturnal animals, but are more active during the day. I think you need to get him a friendof the same sex if you Havnt already, guinea pigs shouldn't be kept single Because they are herd animals, they get stressed being alone ( safety in numbers being a prey animal) same with alot of rodents, apart from Certain species of hamster.

I agree. They are not nocturnal and I have never heard of a piggy being scared of the dark.
Being alone will be stressful for him though as they are highly social herd animals

Yes I agree too, he's probably not scared of the dark, more likely he is scared about being left alone when you all go to bed and he associates lights off time with several hours on his own. Whenever we've briefly kept a piggy alone for quarantine, we've kept them in our bedroom at night if possible, so they don't feel abandoned! He definitely needs a friend, in the meantime you could try adding a baby safe furry toy just before you switch the light off so he has something to cuddle up to, but nothing can replace a friend of his own kind.

I have had 2 pigs afraid of the dark. Both were boys and attached to mommy. One was ok if I let him sleep in my room with a nightlight. My boy now is not. But I think it's more of a mommy where are you than a dark problem.
