A while back Tiger our coronet had lice and the vet gave us some Spot-On to treat it. i was worried about using it as it is so toxic, but a few of you said it was Ok and you had used it with no problems.
We have found a small bald patch on the back of Tiger's shoulders - it is circular and just where we applied the Spot-On. Has anyone else noticed this happening? It diesn't look like the hair will grow back - fortunately you can't really notice it as he is long-haired but still its a bit worrying..

hoping tiger feels better soon :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: i think when our late thumper the bunny had fleas the bunnies and guinea pigs were treated with a spot on, not sure which one it was though. it was for puppies and kittens and small animals either frontline or advantage i think it was. guinea pigs and bunnies had no ill effects or bald patches. mind you 4 months later at the vet thumper struggled, fainted, heart stopped and was gone but this was NOT connected to the spot on he was 7. sending hugs and healing vibes to tiger :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: perhaps go back to the vet and tell them tiger has had an allergic reaction to it and see where you go from there O0 wishing you luck :-* :-* :-*

:( bit worrying. hope tigers alright soon. maybe let the vet know he's had an allergic reaction, maybe some guineas are allergic to it?

best thing to use is xeno450 you can buy it on-line or get it from your vets and the gorgeous guineas shampoo for lice is great too

Love i'd pm Mary and ask her, but def tell the vets :o :o :o
awwwwwwwwww hugs and wheeks for little Tiger :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

ive never had that happen :o

the only problem ive had with spot on is it not working. but thats because the incompetent vet gave me a doseage far too low for the pig in question

Hopefully, in the future, use Tea Tree Oil. It is all natural found at health food stores or online and no toxicity risk unless you feed it to your pigs. It works for lice, mites, fungus, all of it. It is often used as a head lice substitute on humans. On the pigs, I usually start with initial treatment of massaging several drops into their skin. Let soak for a few hours minimum. Then, bathe them using twice as much tea tree oil as shampoo. Clean the cage and wash everything. The second day massage into their coats morning and night. The third day massage in the morning and bathe at night. After this repeat bathing in 1 week, then again in 1 week, and again in 1 more week. This makes sure all eggs, etc is killed. I used it on my pigs. I have found that most medicines are not made for guinea pigs and lots of them are deadly. I also had a guinea pig die from antibiotics. I now use Sovereign Silver ( a natural antibiotic also found at health food stores) for infections. No toxicity risk and much better for good bacteria. I usually give 6 drops and 2 nasal sprays in each nostril every hour for infections until symptoms stop for several days. I usually go ahead and mix 1/2 a probiotic capsule in a small amount of room temp chamomile tea and give it in a dropper with their veggies 2 times a day just to make sure good bacteria stays good. Sovereign Silver has been used in lots of pets and humans for years with great success. It recently has declined in human use because a few people turned blue after overdosing daily for 70 years or applying directly to skin (which you are NOT supposed to do) for several years. I often do just the nasal spray (several every hour) for sinus/respiratory problems.
