I have just been looking on the pets at home website and saw they are selling lavender and lemon scented woodshavings. I may be wrong I'm under the impression guinea pigs aren't good with scented things?

Can anyone help? thanks :)

Hi, I have used the lemon scented shavings for about 3 years now, as my animals are inside and I don't want to put people off visiting ! The shavings are not that strong, and although one of my guineas has just died, the others have been fine for the last 3 years so I don't think it was down to the shavings !

I have only ever used plain wood shavings, I dont like the idea of scented in case its not good for the piggies.
I clean mine every other day so never had problems with odour and he is indoors too x

I feel awful now ! Thats why these sort of forums are great because they are so informative. I shall steer clear now.....but I do clean their " smelly " corner everyday! I notice in your photos a lot of you have fleecy bedding...what is this ? I also have a house rabbit who sleeps in a cat bed, but my guineas do make a beeline for it when they are having a run around and look quite snuggled up as well as proud as punch ! so maybe they might prefer a softer bedding ?

Lots of people use shavings without any problem at all, so don't feel worried about that. Indoors though, they can be messy so many opt for fleece. There are different ways of using it. On top of newspaper or towels or both. Fleece can be any sort from regular shops. There are some specialist fleeces that people use too, these are much much thicker eg, vetbed or profleece, you can google these for info. You have to be careful with the hay though, as it can be a beggar to get out of the thicker fleeces, but they still need a good supply. For funky, really good quality beds and hammocks etc., check out www.hammockyhammocks.co.uk I have loads from here and they are really great and wash well. x
