School Guinea Pigs

Oh that poor bunny it must have been so hot in all that heat even without the plastic bag increasing the temperature!
believe me, if I had that man here in my hands I would committe an omicide!! I had a shock in seeing that pic! and it is not the only one unfortunately...

On the subject of parents who "get rid" of pets the children want.

I know one family who tried to sell their piggies because the children decided they now wanted a puppy instead. They got the dog and the pigs were originally submitted to a rescue with the parents a bit annoyed they got no money back on them.

Another family bought rats and THREE kittens on the same weekend. Not only was the rats cage far too small and unsuited for the rats but the cats as they got larger were still allowed in the same room when the rats were out. This resulted in a rat having its tail amputated due to the damage when a cat got hold of it!
Then they decided to get rid of the rats a short time later after 4 months of owning them.

I despair of the human race at times...

Update on the school pigs...sigh...she wants to keep the 'nature garden' so I basically called her bluff and said, fine, but you know my feelings now; I am taking a step back. She rang me. I told her that just because you have the right set up and plan in place still doesn't mean it is right for the animals. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should! She still wants to keep them this term. I have agreed to go in once a week during the next term to make sure they are being looked after properly but will tell her if I am not happy with their conditions. The upside is that they have a new 5ft double storey hutch to go into, with rain cover, and will be fed nuggets rather than the cheap seed rubbish they were being fed before. I am going to set the hutch up as it should be for the start of term. This is not ideal and I am not particularly happy. But it is the best I can do at the moment. I have offered to rehome them but she isn't budging so part of me thinks, fine, get on with it.

Sometimes that's all you can do I'm afraid.

People don't like being told their wrong
And people don't like feeling like your trying to force them to give up their animals,

I thought all along she wouldn't want to let you keep them
You'll just have to try to improve the situation rather then rehome them for now.

I know and I wouldn't like it either so I can understand her point of view. Once they are back in school I am going to take a step back - I've got my own herd to look out for!

the only thing you can do now is talking aloud with other parents... I don't know in Uk but here parents meet every day outside the school before children finish lessons and that is the moment when the battles are planned...
At highschool there are groups with whatsapp...
This lady and her "bucolic dream" needs to be under strict supervision

Have you mentioned that the RSPCA even advise against school guinea pigs? This person sounds a right pain! :(

Hi Tim. Yes I did - I sent her the link. Her response was that they had sought advice from the RSPCA and DEFRA (they have chickens and ducks) about keeping animals at school and the accommodation and care plan they have provided meet the needs. Roughly translated, they looked up on the internet and got what they thought they needed. I have seen this lady in action before and she does tell the odd pork pie occasionally. There is no care plan in place and I had to tell her to get bigger hutches for the 2 rabbits they had, as well as the GPigs. That's why I said to her (whilst slowly banging my head against the wall) that 'just because you can doesn't mean you should'! Believe me, this fight isn't over yet. This is where the baby girls are now (left hand run) - I might just send the picture to the woman and say "this is where they should be"!

well, chats aside... tell the Bocolic Lady that you will keep an eye in her bucolic dream and at the very first sign of a bad care you will call the RSPCA. And maybe also Daily Mail :D who is always in search of stories about schools, uniforms and other stuff!
And do any effort for finding another parent who agrees with you.
Your garden is awasome!:luv:

Man I hate school pets... I hope you manage to get them rehomed! It's lovely that you're looking out for them. People are so stupid and need a good ol' slap to remind them that they're not actually gods.

I'm guessing this woman is stuck in the 1900's? Seriously though, you're a much better person than me because I would already have a restraining order out against me :)) At least with the power of Facebook and such you can shame people pretty well XD

myself+you together= :flame::rant::box:
ahahaha!:lol!:
My husband uses me for going and "talking" with the bank director when necessary...:))

cute! Sushi and Peanut have the same colour, quite difficult to recognise them! and Chip look like @flowerfairy 's Jingle! (although Jingle has a longer fur).
Your is a lovely piggie-family!:luv:
Sushi has the craziest bum fluff - Peanut is smooth. They are so gorgeous x

I write with experience. NO ANIMAL SHOULD BE A SCHOOL PET. NONE. it's wrong on many fronts. I rescued a piggie fron a nursey who was subjected to hours of poking..shouting. fed .crap. cage rattling. i could go on. And i dont blame the children. Adults and workers who let the children abuse the animals cos they want easy life. ITS WRONG PERIOD.

See, I totally agree with this except for one thng...find a far better paper than the Daily Fail! Pretty sure they couldn't properly report on a story, any story, if they tried!

but the best (exaggerated) stories appeared on Daily Mail, after two days appear on Il Messaggero, the newspaper of Rome, rich of gossip, too :D
What I like of Daily Mail is the list of "worst rated" comments:drool::drool:

Hi everyone. Sorry for delay in responding - we have been looking after one of our own pigs who is unwell and has had 2 dentals in 2 weeks. I think we are on to palliative care for him now :soz: - so our minds have been elsewhere!

Quick update - the piggies are still with us - they are due to go back to school at the weekend. I will be keeping a close eye on them. We've sorted the hutch out in preparation and my youngest daughter, who attends the school, is going to check on them after school every day. Not ideal but the only thing I can do in the meantime.

I'm sorry to hear about your poorly piggie. I send him/her my love and best wishes. Shame piggies have to go back you done great with them. I openly stole my piggie from a school and told them if they made a fuss I tell everyone how long and much it took to get his poo and urine off his infected paws. As I'm aware he's not been replaced at school. Bless Him

Well done you, David  thanks for best wishes for Jambo - we are taking each day as it comes. x
