I know some people don't agree with schools having pets but my sons school have 2 guinea pigs.
Today my son volunteered to help with the guinea pigs. He is often in trouble at school and the teachers were a bit surprised at first they then saw how gentle he was with them and his enthusiasm and 'expertise' and are now thinking he would be really good at being regular helper with them next year and I'm really pleased about it for him and the piggies.
Teacher came out to speak to me and share the news and then I got to go and meet the piggies (Su and shi) they look happy and well cared for nice clean hutch and a run and they come indoors when need to because of the weather etc
I'm hoping they may get to come and stay sometime {:|

I have two piggies at what is now my old school, they're a great animal and often really help relax children and i completely agree with them being in school as long as under the right care etc. of course (:

Its really good that you took the time to come on a forum to find out more about the piggies your son will be helping ! I hope he enjoys the time he spends with them (:

He is age 10 its a junior school I'm not sure what the grade would be.
I've been a member of the forum since Easter time when we got our piggies, he is very good with them and does seem to find them calming. He seems really pleased that the teachers have given him some responsibility like this

That is great! Children often feel confident about themselves when someone in a position of authority entrusts them with responsibility.
