Please help! :( Pippin started with a cloudy eye 2 days ago, he’s only 4 months old and I’ve never experienced this with a pig before. I took him to the vets and they’ve said he may be blind in the eye, OR it could be a hay poke. She ruled out tumour. I’ve got some eye drops called Isathal. Has anyone else had a pig with this kind of symptom/ eye?! :soz::soz:

I've used Isathal many times on my piggies. Christian (I think it was him) had a really bad hay poke with an ulcer forming in the middle of his eye and a scratch on the surface as well as an ulcer on the surface (did a really good job). The vet was so concerned about him she said to take him back in 3 days (usually its 7) to check his eye. It had completely cleared in 3 days. If it is hay poke Isathal will clear it. Did your vet put some yellow dye in and/or shine a light in the eye? Also did the vet want to see him again?

Hi lovely, thanks for replying! Did it go like Pippin’s has? Like a cloudy blue colour ? Yes she put dye in and said everything was clear. Is this a good sign? She said she would see him in around 10 days time to make sure things got better! I just hate that I can’t do anything to fix it for him :( I’ve been told to give him one eye drop each day for 10 days! X x

If I remember rightly it is a good sign if all shows clear when the dye is in. Can't remember whether Christian's eye went a cloudy blue or not as it was a while ago now. You ARE doing something to fix him. You took him to the vet and you are putting in eye drops. Don't feel bad about that. You are helping him.

The eyes always go cloudy after an eye injury. It’s something to do with the blood vessels healing the eye. It can look dramatic but will improve and go clearer again as the eye heals. One of my fosters recently greeted me with a cloudy and sore eye one Sunday morning. A trip to the emergency vets and treatment with eye drops has sorted him out.
I wouldn’t leave it so long u til you go back to see the vet - in case it gets worse. Our vets usually see them within a few days and then again a week later. Better safe than sorry with eyes. Good luck.

It’s been like it for 3 days now. How long does it normally take for injuries to heal? I feel like this is a sign of cataract :( x

It can take some time. I would ask the vet to review the eye this week to see whether the eye is healing or whether different drops are needed.

It can take longer than 3 days so, please be patient .
