Captain Jack only has one eye and I came home after being away and he has clearly been scratching the eye area of the missing eye. I doesn't look red, but I wonder if it possible that he can rip open the eye socket? It does look a bit damp.

I will try and get a photo of the eye, but wondered if anyone has experienced this and what the scenario was. I know there are few people here you've also got one eyed piggies.

I will have another look tonight, but he was so excited to have his mummy back he wouldn't sit still, no matter what.

I'll check the date of his last xeno in the meantime just in case I'm out of date.

Thanks in advance, back on later.

is the eye socket sealed shut or can it still be opened?

Nelly only has one eye, the other just an empty socket (not sealed shut i can still open it) and i clean it daily and after i've done this he will scratch it.

i dont think they can rip it open as such but his isnt sealed so its possible. sorry I'm just babbling!

A picture would be helpful. The eye socket should be stitched up. How long ago was his removal of the eye?

I would make sure to treat again for mites just in case. And if he continues then maybe have a check up at the vets.

x.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, I managed to get a couple of shots. They did sew the lids to close the eye after they removed the eye ball. I think the operation was between 9-13 months ago. I think it has definately opened a little.

I've given him a treatment of Zeno, it was certainly over 6 weeks ago, but do you think it's a problem.

Sorry the photos aren't great quality. I took them on my blackberry.

Much appreciated.

I think I may keep an eye on him for a day or too,if I see no improvement he'll definately be off to the vets to be sure.

i must say the loss of one eye doesnt seem to affect my boy at all :)

gorgeous young man drool

Thanks, no jack has done really well also. He's fabulous and your right, they do adapt quickly. You would not know at all.

Do appreciate your response, I will keep you up to date.

I've just had a thought...

I ran out of auboise bedding and was using wood shavings until I got my 20kgs bag, and come to think of it, all my piggies are laying on the upstairs fleece level since I put shavings on the ground floor. Could it be irritating him?
Apart from that, nothing else has changed.

I guess I had better get that bag of bedding pretty sharp'ish either way.
