my two new guinea pigs seem to scratch and bite their fur. but whether its normal or not I'm not sure. ive taken them to the vet and he said they are fine.but if it was mange mites they wouldnt be noticable?
so how much scratching is really OK?

Well, they probably didn't get enough veggies at the pet store (if that's where you got them) so they could have dry skin from the lack of vitamin c. Just giving them plenty of veg will fix that :) it could just be where you might be using a different brand of bedding that they are used to! They will hopefully settle! :luv:

If they are biting I would ask the vet to check again as it sounds to me like something is irritating them. You can't see mange mites but signs would be hair that looks broken half way down the shaft and it can eventually form a v shape in their hair. There may also be skin debris. Has your vet also ruled out a fungal infection? there are many types, not just Ringworm.

You could always test them out on something other than woodshavings to see if they still scratch. Like Fitch or even vetbed or fleece.
