I got 2 new pigs just over 2 weeks ago. one is a mom and the other is a baby, they have been with my herd about 10 days. I notice the baby screaming usually when the others are with her like when the other pigs are asserting their dominance but occasionally on her own. I heard baby pigs are more dramatic she's about 2 months old, eating drinking as normal 2 of my younger pigs were very dramatic when I got them, could she just be dramatic or should I be worried? I checked her physically and she seems fine she also did gain weight her last weigh in around 3 days ago. thanks!

I’m not a behaviour expert but I’m sure one will be along later.
It may just be that she’s ensuring everypig else knows she’s submissive and no threat.
If she’s eating and drinking and gaining weight that is good.
Please can we see pictures

thank you I really hope so, one of the younger ones is still dramatic when being picked up lol occasionally I see her laying in the same hide with one of the quieter pigs. she's the smallest one, her mom is the one who looks like her but a bit bigger x

I brought them the vet just before I introduced them to the herd, as the mom I thought had cataracts and wanted to make sure it wasn't anything serious she checked the baby and said she looks healthy that was probably 2 weeks ago

Hi! Take a deep breath!

Submission screaming from babies is very dramatic, but also very effective. It translates as: "Don't be mean; I am not any competition for you!" ;)

They should settle down eventually after 2-3 weeks although some babies are real drama queens. My skittish Hirael still does two years on when her dominant mummy is just looking at her... Sigh!

ohh boy haha, the other 2 I got at 6 weeks seemed to settle by 4 months old but one of them is still dramatic when I pick her up she screams like I'm killing her 🙄and they're 6 months old now

Lovely piggies.
Hope we’ll see lots more pictures of your little drama queen and the herd

Yeah, either really submissive or really into her own space. One of my sows "Amy" is about 5 months old now, and she whines a lot when anyone is near her. For whatever reason, her sister "Griffinia" is always, well, messing with her. I never witnessed where their "break" occurred, but it happened. Amy used to just run away, but then Griffinia started to go to the food bowl at the same times, and Amy starts up. Griffinia will put her paw out on the Frisbee food bowl lip, hold it there for a second, then PULL it with serious force, all while staring at her like "I dare you". Quite comical.

Your younger one might have gotten a really hard "correction nip" at one point, and it's what she remembers and is reacting. I have noticed that if ANY of my 5 month old sows cross paths with their mom (Susie) and she nips one, they still let out a different shriek, identical to one they'd let out when Susie was weening them. If they get into with another sister, it's a more normal sound, except for Amy where it's a straight up whining.

I have noticed she doesn't shriek as much now she's still extremely submissive tho
