mutton chops

Hi we're new to the forum and in the planning stages of our 1st C & C palace! We have 2 Guinea pigs. :smitten:

Has anyone bought the the cubes from screwfix.....

www.screwfix.com/cats/A333043/Ironmongery/Shelving-Systems/Storage-Cubes

We're not thick but find this misleading.... 98)

It states 4 cube display measuring W x H x D: 740 x 740 x 360mm

The image shows a 2 cube display not reflecting the dimensions above. ?

Has anybody bought these? How many panels will I get?

Obviously the amount of packs I will get will reflect the size of our construction....but although we would like the ultimate biggest bestest C & C cage - not practical in a normal semi-detached bedroom when the guinea pigs share a bedroom with humans

Money is also an issue...dont want to spend more than what we have too and dont want to mess around with returns. This all effects quality piggie time O0

I've got them :) you get 18 in a pack i think, maybe 19! Grids that is! I got 2 packs and made a 4x3 with a 1x3 upper level for my girls and had a couple of grids spare, hope that helps! xx

:) no problem, if you have any other questions just ask there are a lot of us on here with C&Cs
Love Emma x

You only get 16 grids, if you decide to get one pack then you can make,
A 2 x 3 with a 1 x 3 upper level
A 4 x 4 cage
or a 5 x 2 cage.
I would experiment with them as they as it can easily be changed. :)

i had thought it was misleading too, so i emailed them to ask about 2 months ago and I'm still waiting for a reply! lol ::)

Thanks vryon.

From Mummy Mutton Chops!

That why I suggested asking the forum - quicker than asking screwfix - the customer services team probably would not know what an earth I was going on about anyway.

Got an answer from you guys within the hour so thank you all for the great help.

We spent most of last night with graph paper, rulers and pencils working out out requirements.

Baby Muttons chops (aged 13yrs) got a bit confused as it involved maths and her natural hair colour is against her!

We are either opting for a 4x2 with a 2x2 second storey at 1st. It will need to be enclosed as we have cats and a dog - the 4 "predators" have never shown an interest in the "wheeky girls" even when running free around the house but there could always be that fatal 1st time & we would have to live with that.

I have worked out that I would require 36 grids. Is that correct? (12 for the base, 8 for the floor, 8 for the 2nd floor and 8 for the lids)

The intention is to upgrade to a 3 storey 4x2 in the future - 2 storeys living space & bottom left open for storage.

The intention is to get part of the construction as high as Baby Muttons Loft bed so they can all sleep together - how cool is that gonna be! ;D

It is confusing. I ordered 2 packs and got 2 packs, 9 grids in each pack. Then found out on here that I should have got double that so emailed them to complain and they sent me 4 packs free...needless to say I have loads left over ? So still unsure as to how many there should be in the first place :-\ and there is never enough connectors so I recommend you get some cable ties from there as well.

I have a shopping list going on the screwfix site.

They do silver ties now that wont show up on the frame!

I've just counted mine, worked out i must have got 18 in one pack, 19 in another (got them two on the same day and made the one cage with them) and 16 in one pack (made ralfies cage at a late date) ? do you think they even count them when putting them in?! i wondered why i had no connectors left ;D x

A 4x2 with 2x2 upper level sounds great.
If you look on www.guineapigcages.com in their photo gallery under closed cages there is a similar cage on their.
If the cage is going to be sat on the floor then you won't need to use grids in the base. I worked it out and to make the above cage you will need 34 grids.

I love that site

I could watch it all day admiring peoples pigs and their loving creations

Gosh our pigs have it good & cushy! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
