First one now another .... poor Scruffy is limping and not putting his front paw down. We've looked at his little hand and can't see anything wrong. Huxley and Roly are going to the vets tomorrow for their check-ups, we will take Scruff too. They must be sick of the sight of us and all our pig carriers.

Oh no Katie, hope he is ok! Maybe he has just jumped funnily on it. Bless hiim, keep us posted on how he is. :smitten:

He might have bumblefoot. It's an infection that starts in the pad and causes swelling and discomfort. Sometimes there can be a cut or opening on the pad but not always. Its usually treated with antibiotics. It's mentioned on Peter Gurney's wesbite. Hope this helps and he's feeling better soon :)

I hope it's nothing too serious Katie. I think Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas is dealing with potions for Bumblefoot, I know she sent out her newsletter about it - if you don't have it, I can probably find it and sent it hang on...

And this is a quote from another GG article:

Bumblefoot (also know as Pododermatitis) is a swelling / ulceration of the foot pad that can be very painful for a guinea. The condition is often bacterial in origin but can also be fungal, and is difficult to treat. Over the past few weeks we've been working on a new ointment to try and help this condition. So far the results have been very promising, and the feet have been healing from the inside out. Given that skin takes around 28 days to renew itself, this is never going to be a "quick fix", so patience is required.

Oops, I should have noticed that on the newsletter, thanks both of you.
I hope he is OK, he is my snuggly pig and will sit on my shoulder or snuggle into my neck. :(

Hi Katie, how did Scruffy get on at the vets? Hope he will be ok! This sounds a little like what has been happening with Sunny :-\ I hope it isnt the same thing.

Aw thanks all, we took him to the vets with Hux and Roly on Monday night - the vet had a good feel of both his front legs, moved them around, they moved fine and he didn't squeak or wriggle at all so the vet thinks he's just bruised it or something.. but when we got home and also yesterday he seemed worse.. tonight he doesn't seem to be limping so badly though, but its not nice seeing him like this as he is usually such a livewire. The vet said to keep an eye on him for a few days but if he's no better he is going back to the vets soon. He seems to have slightly lost his appetite as well... :(

I'm sorry to hear that Scruffy is not feeling better. Loads of :-* and cuddles to Scruffy x

Sunny tells Scruffy it is a great excuse to rest-A LOT! Oh and mummy will pick you up and feed you and make a huge fuss ;)

Get well soon Scruffy :smitten:

He seems a lot better today! He is using his front leg more and putting weight on it - it must have been a bad bruise or a sprain, that'll teach him to throw himself around like a ping pong ball!
He has been lying across me having a cuddle, alternating between cooing happily and growling at OH!
Thanks all!

Thanks! I need to get an uptodate pic of him as he has grown so much! he was such a tiny scrap when we got him!
Will charge the camera up tonight and get some pics of him tomorrow!

Hi Katiep! Just saw this post. I'm so happy to hear that Scruffy is feeling better. I know these little guinea's do a lot of jumping around and they have such little legs. Anything is possible. Sorry I didn't post sooner. Sometimes I think I miss some of these posts. I'm surprised I didn't see this one sooner. But it looks like good news for Scruffy. It's really scary owning a GP. Good luck! I'll check in tomorrow. Love to you and little Scruffy! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-* :-*
