Hi.

I am going to be receiving my new c&c cage soon for more space so I can introduce a friend for my guinea pig. He is a male guinea pig, so I think the only option is to get him neutered and get a female piggie for him. My problem is just that I can't seem to find that many rescue guinea pigs, which seemed to be a better option than a pet shop. I live in Aberdeenshire, and I would prefer not having to drive a long drive down to the south. I was wondering where other people living in Scotland have gotten their guinea pigs from?
( I've tried looking at Gumtree, any rescue sites I could find on google - without much luck in my area)

There is a rescue locater on the top of the forum were you can find your nearest rescue by postcode.

There's a branch of the SSPCA in Banchory, although they don't have any pigs at the moment. There's Willows Animal Sanctury in Banff but I don't know much about them.

Also, Becklen Guinea Pig Rescue in Gretna (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Becklen-Guinea-Pig-Rescue) have quite a lot of pigs looking for home last I saw but obviously it's a bit of a trek but worth it if you definitely want to go down the rescue route.

Unfortunately there aren't many rescues here at the moment.

I have already looked at the rescue locator. I'll try have a look at those Mishimpossible, thanks! Becklen is unfortunately too far away from me though.

Oh, also try Mrs Murray's Cat and Dog home, they sometimes have small animals but you would have to call and ask as they don't update their page very often.

I have written to Hutches now. At first I thought they were much further away, but they actually seem to be the only ones up by me.

Thanks! I won't get the new cage for another two weeks, and I will need to get my piggie neutered in the meantime as well, so I still have some time to go.

I wouldn't rush into getting him neutered at least until you have spoken to rescues. Male piggies can be bonded, and many rescues do have a boar dating service. There is a rescue lady who runs a very successful residential boar dating service and lots of boars go home with a new friend. If you do decide to get him neutered you will need to keep him separate from any females for at least 6 weeks post op, to prevent any pregnancies.
Hope that helps.

There doesn't seem to be too many rescue centres around here, so I don't think I would be able to go on dates with him. He also doesn't like new places, so I'm not sure he would be very sociable in such a situation? I didn't realise they had to be kept separate for that long after the op, thanks.
