Hello! I found out some information tonight that I definitely just want to check with you guys?

I’ve always given my guinea pigs the P@H pets at home treat sticks, you know, the seedy ones with honey flavour? They’ve always loved it! I generally only give 2 once a month for all three girls to share. Apparently they’re meant to be bad for the piggies? Of course if that’s the case I’ll stop immediately! Any alternatives would be great though as they adore those things!

They do also get daily forage (teeny!) with their daily hay and nuggets but I just wanted to check and confirm this! :) if this is the case I’ll give the sticks I have to the hamsters instead

I would avoid anything ‘seedy’ due to the potential choking hazard for piggies. And I’m not sure they’re even supposed to have honey either so would say no. I don’t know if hamsters would be ok with it though.

I’m afraid they aren’t good for pigs at all.
If you look in the feeding section there is some information about suitable treats.
Mine like a little carrot, or an apple branch as a treat

Very bad for piggies, honey and seeds are a definite no! Hay cookies that are simply dried compressed meadow grass and herbs are a healthy piggy treat, as is a handful of Readigrass- these things are just fancy hay :)

Forage is a much healthier treat than any fatty seeds that are glued together with sugar - of course the latter is as addictive to rodents as it is for humans... :(

But instead of concentrating on treats, turning your normal daily veg and pellet feed into enriched fun time is actually even healthier and much better for you and your piggies! Because the more hay and the less sugar and fat they eat, the healthier they will be and the greater the chance of a long life. Being a good owner doesn't mean spoiling with treats, but giving them a happy and fulfilled life - and the best things in this respect are surprisingly cheap and easy!

Haha, absolutely! They already get a heading handful of forage per day :) I did also pick up a hay roller (a wooden one, with the gaps small enough that they're no chance of getting their heads stuck!) so they've currently got alfafa king timothy hay in there and munching away! Thank you, though - evidently no more seeds.

Hi! Don't overdo the forage if you also feed pellets.
