Sometimes I need to buy food for my guinea pigs in the food store because on Sundays the pet store is closed:(. The woman at my pet shop says guinea pigs don't eat seeds. Is this true?. The pet food is: seeds, pellets and dried fruit. I feel bad for giving them this "emergency food" but it says it's approved for bunny's, hamsters and guinea pigs. All the seeds are left and they never eat sunflower seeds. Can seeds be bad for them?:^-

To my next question: I read online that grapes is bad for guinea pigs. I give them grapes, not many, but two our three when I have some. I have stopped giving them grapes when I heard this. Is this also true? :^-

..

I forgot to say that I know the best food is from the pet store. They hate the food i have given them today8...

I dont see how it can be approved for hamster guinea pigs and rabbits as all of these animals have different nutritional needs..... I would recommend giving your pigs a food specifically manufactured for pigs, a food that contains vitamin c, pellets are preferable as it prevents selctive feeding.

Grapes are not bad for pigges, though buy seedles ones if you can or if not cut them up and remove the seeds.

I understand this is an emergency sittuation however Maybe it would be better to by two bags of food next time, and when the first one runs out buy another one?

If they have unlimited hay and a balanced veg selection I'm sure they would be ok without pellets for a day or two.

Seeds (in their shells) are not right for guinea pigs I fed them once and one of my pigs got a seed stuck right through their bottom teeth and I couldn't figure out what was wrong.

Be careful, but for a day or so nutritionally it should be okay - just beware the seed shells.

Reply: :)

I buy them guinea pig food at the pet store but, sometimes I run out of food and the pet store is closed. In Norway almost every shop is closed on sundays so this is only when I am out. I give them greens and lots of hay every day so they dont suffer but, i dont like giving them this food. On the package it says aproved for bunnyes and hamsters, guinea pigs but it´s not, Thats why I buy my food at the pet store. I know many people buy this "aproved" food, it´s a shame becouse it´s not the right meal for the pets.
Mine eat cavy complete.

I always buy seedless grapes, They love grapes so I am happy my pigs can have grapes:(|)

As I said above, Please do everything not to run out if this is the only alternative.

I buy big bags but I will buy two next time.:)
They get lots of vegetables and hay every day so they are eating as much as they want:))
I think the pigs will do just fine but i feel bad when this happens. :(
This does not happen often :)

Seeds are a choking hazard, as piggies gobble so quickly. As previously said, many countries do not routinely feed muesli or pellets to their guinea pigs, and they are just fine. The muesli/pellets are not essential, especially if you can't get the right sort.
