But ... I'm pretty sure my cage wouldn't be big enough. I have two girls in a Plaza 160 - used to have 3 until I lost Darcy a couple of weeks ago. Although the cage is big enough for 3 girls if I wanted to try a boar with them, I'm not sure it would be. Thoughts please?

According to the Cage Size guide, it would be within RSPCA guidelines, but smaller than recommended here:
Cage Size Guide

I'd already checked that out, but thank you! Not sure it would be too cramped for a boar plus 2 wives, not ideal, but you see the dilemma?

i have a liberta 150cm x 77cm cage,it houses i neutered boar and 2 sows and they all get on well.it is the recommended size for 2 to 3 piggies,RSPCA guidelines .I hope you are able to take on a neutered boar.

Thanks Eileen. It's a comparable size to mine, I've just never had boars before and I know they need a bit more space.

two boars would be fine in this cage, neutered boar and two sows.the plaza you can get extensions for if you are concerned.I'm sorry you lost your piggie.

I'm sure space is more of an issue with 2 boars. But 1 boar and 2 sows is OK?

I have boar an sow pair, they don't get on great, but they tolerate each other and I know deep down when one is scared they will both huddle up together

Thank you Eileen - missing her so much as she was very special to me and we had a great bond.

I was concerned because I know it's the minimum recommended size by RSPCA, but on here it's recommended to go up a size and if they didn't get along great, then they wouldn't have much room to get away from each other!

Sorry I didn't see your last paragraph - do you have a 160 as well?

I’d say see how much space there is once you have three hides, three bowls and the hay tray/pile. Remember they need space to get away from each other and to do zoomies, and popcorn 🥰

A neutered 'husboar' counts as a sow in terms of space because there is not quite the territorial pressure there is with a boars-only bond.
You can always add a mezzanine level as a hay loft for extra ground space. ;)

The problem with a boar on spec (unless he can be dated) is initial acceptance - that is the big hurdle with adult and especially older sows.
