>:(I so want to rescue that piggie! She lives in the pet shop, as I said before, I looked at ther or him again today, and I noticed it has that rossette type fur. I also noticed that is has bald patch, and it was itching a bit. This is awful to leave the animal like that because the pet shop is connected to a vets! It also wanted a drink and it's bottle was empty-felt like putting the guina pig under my arm and walking off!! Still can't find any hay, had an email from someone who had guina pigs, and they never gave hay, can you believe that!

Depriving an animal of its basic needs is despicable
Please go back there if you can and make sure that he / she gets some water

I think I would be tempted to put the poor little thing under my arm and walk out! :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

I'm actually thinking of calling into here vet part and saying look here-have you seen that guinea pig over there!

Iould not be able to leave the shop knowing that the guinea had no water i would certainly of told them to fill it up there and then i would go back or phone!

You have to do something and quickly - please.

An animal will die a horrible death without water.

especially if you're in turkey - it's really hot, right? poor little thing, sounds like it's not being looked after, and to have no hay :( Is there anyway you could get grass for it?
What do horses over there get fed on? They must have hay/grass/dried grass/some kind of forage?

Awww poor lil fella :-\ If that was me in that situation id feel just as bad about the situation for leaving the lil fella there just thinking he hasnt got any hay or water is bad :'(

Id feel sooo guilty and tell them straight :tickedoff:

At the mo it's not too hot here, about 20 degrees everyday, horses here tend to graze on grass, and they are thin compared to english horses-mind you saying that there are some riding stables nearby I think I should go talk to them about hay, becuase their horses are like ours.
I have decided I am going to the vets tomorrow early and telling them about the pig itching, that it was left without water, that it's cge wasn't all that clean, and what about hay, without it guineas will die. I will be very interested what they say (this verts is linked to the shop where the guinea is.

I would love to get this guinea, I feel like I have already bonded with it, although my mum said she didn't see it today, but my mum is great at missing things. I'm just a bit scared about the hay situation, and about mites lice and things like that. I'm sure all animals must have there problems areas as far as health is concerned, but I seem to have searched deep into things that I didn't know about when I had my first guinea. I don't want to be afaird to play with it and cuddle it, but on the other hand I don't want my dd picking up anything either, am I worrying too much, or am I right o be cautious?
Thanks again

All piggers are different but it is true that ones that start life in a lonely cage in a pet shop need extra TLC to begin with
You clearly have feelings about this little pig and seem to have the knowledge to be able to handle him or her but there is a good chance that the pet shop would just replace it with another thirsty animal

As a priority you need to ensure that the living conditions are addressed with the vet. Every minute feeling thirsty will feel like an hour for that poor soul.
Take some cucumber in your pocket and slip it into the cage when the owner is not looking.

Get the living conditions improved for all animals in the shop, both current and future, and then think about the little one and whether you can take on extra responsibility

It would be a bit of an undertaking if it's unhealthy. Whatever you do, don't pay for it. Then you're just giving them profit to buy a couple more and even if you get it for free, like Billies Mum says you need to bear in mind it will just be replaced.

Is there any authority you could report the shop to?

AS far as I know there is nobody I can report this too. There is no rspca here. I don't believe they would replace the guinea pig, becuase a turkish family bought the animal to the shop for them to find a new home for it, it use to be a home guinea pig. They have never had guinea pigs before, the pet shop is more interested in dogs and birds I believe.
I'l let you know how I get on today. Hubbie is still a major problem, sent him a text message saying I bought the GP aand when he came home he didn't seem to be happy about it at all, even though it was a joke, wanted to see how he would respond-prehaps he could go for a little look today!

perhaps show hubby how they in the shop are mistreated the poor little mite! :'( :'( :'( maybe then he would change his mind! we have a fooder store where we live and there animals, birds were in a terrible state. water was green, cages never cleaned, piggies and other animals had things wrong with them. i sent numerous letter to the RSPCA about the conditions and treatment of the animals and i kept presisting. now the place has changed hands and the animals are way better looked after and clean and appear happy! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: so when you go to the vet/petshop today drag hubby with you! as for you having 20C can you send it here to south australia we are in our longest ever heat wave since recording of the weather started and there is no end in sight! :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: good luck, let us know how you get on! sending you hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send you :-* :-* :-*

If you can't find regular hay supply, could you at least offer grass on a daily basis? Sounds like he's better out of there.

This gets worse! Poor little mite. So it had a home then got dumped, unwanted, on a pet shop that doesnt care about it with nothing to drink.
My heart is breaking. I cant read anymore about this. I just hope his / her suffering comes to an end one way or another very soon.

Well I have been all over my town today! I started with the vets that is connected to the pet shop, I asked if they sold hay-they looked at me as if I gone completely bonkers! I said that guinea pigs need this for their digestive system-they just shrugged and might just as well of told me to buzz off! I drove past the shop, and it looks as though the guinea has gone, I will go back tomorrow and inquire. But I did check all the other pet shops, another was run by a vet and said yes guinea pigs must have hay, but unfortunately they didn't have any becuas they didn't deal with small animals, another shop that sold guinea pigs and rabbits agreed with me that they should have hay, but they didn't have any. I have tried everywhere now. I have looked on e bay, and I am waiting to hear how much postage will be. The hay isn't all that expensive, and I thought if I could just put in a handful a day, that would be more then they are getting now.

Can I give grass as sustitute?

Going to talk to hubbie again tonight! And I will drag him off to the pet shop tomorrow to see them-I am hoping that the guinea pig is still there, but prephaps if he isn't I will learn that he has gone to a nice english person home.

Go easy with the grass! It is a good substitute and will almost likely be devoured but too much all of a sudden can given them scours. I do hope you either (a) find the piggy or (b) learn that he/she has found a forever home with nice loving people this time!

Good luck (and well done) O0

so you had no luck with the stables? hoping you find hay somewhere, the horses and livestock must be eating something like hay! hoping hubby changes his mind and hoping the piggy went to a good home and didn't have anything happen to it due to lack of water. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi

You can contact the Head Office of the RSPCA I have, over a couple of Pet Shops in our area.

They shouldn't be without water or hay at all.

Have you asked to speak to the Manager of the Pet Shop or someone in charge of the Animals I would.

Also you could mention to local newspaper.

Jaye

Went back to the pet shop today-and there he was, I thought he had been found a new home, but no. He had water, and his cage was ok too. He was scratching a bit with his back foot, so I don't know. I asked the lady about hay again, and she said she should be able to get some. I told her that my hubbie won't let me have him, and she said all turkish men were like this, that they only like birds and dogs. I asked my hubbie again last night, why I couldn't have a guinea pig, and he just said leave it :'(, I keep asking but always getting the same answer. Even my mum has come round to the idea a bit now. I think I shall have to show hubbie the guinea, and I told the lady in the shop that too. I really think it is unfair of hubbie becuase I am the carer of our budgies, he occasionally slips in a piece of cucumber and thats it, it should be my choice, don't you think? I've even thought of a cute name for him, Dimple! They think he is a boy, I quite fancied a girl, becuase of the problem with their anal sac, but I have read that if you give them enough exercise they won't get that problem. Is that true?
thanks for all your help, it is much appreciated. :-*

so sorry to here this. I would just get him and hide him somewhere so your hubbie doesn't see. haha. My hubbie to be didn't want our little boys but i said if he has his golf i get my guinea pigs. haha. we are now planning on more as he love them to bits now. Just go and rescue the wee thing. x

i am getting the feeling that your hubby isn't going to change his mind. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: really hoping i am wrong and that you get your guinea pig. but if all turkish men are the same it is looking doubtful. :'( :'( :'( really hoping you can talk him around. sending you hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and the girls send :-* :-* :-*

Goooooooood I would just go and get the poor thing, but it depends on how your husband is. He might tell you to take it back, which would be even worse than not being able to get it in the first place. Have you worked out why he doesn't want it - maybe he associates them with rats/mice/vermin? Does he think they bite? Cost a lot? Smell?

my hubbie says they look like giant rats! And also I'm sure it's becuase they are guinea PIGS, turkish people don't like pigs, my hubbie really has no understanding of GP's-they are nothing like pigs. I am sure this is the main problem. I really am painting a big picture of my hubbie, but he is really very kind and never really says no to nothing, thats why I haven't just gone ahead and bought it-out of respect, becuase he is worth being respected if you know what I mean,if he was a pain in the ass about everything I won't take any notice. And he does love animals too.

if hubby can read english perhaps get hubby to read a book on guinea pigs where it saids they are not rats or pigs nor come from guinea or even a website then perhaps hubby will change his mind. sounds like hubby just needs to be educated on guinea pigs, if hubby is prepared to learn then try to teach him. tell him this means a lot to you and could he just listen or read. it can't hurt, good luck. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*
