Well I thought you might like the outcome of the piggie in the pet shop, he has gone to a new english owner, I'm sure he will be well look after, and that owner is me! I am going to pick him up tomorrow afternoon. His name is Dimple. The itching and ear problem, is due to a fungal problem they think, and they are taking him to the vet for an injection, and I've asked for a check up too. Ok couple questions again....
1) Seeing as it it doesn't appear to be a major fungal problem, will one injection be enough, and when will I notice an improvement in the piggie?

2) Would fungal problems cause itching and fur loss-or is that from something different?

3) Should I avoid holding the GP until the fungal problem has gone, could I catch it?
Sorry if these are all silly questions!

4) fleece blankets-do you hand wash them, or is it ok to put in the machine-I mean is in hygieneic? If you hand wash what do you use, I was thinking baby soap flakes?


The pet shop are going to try and find some hay for me as well, and I told them prehaps they would sell a lot if they had it.
My Dad has recommened I buy a paddling pool, to put the GP to exercise- as long as he doesn't put his teeth through it, I think this is pretty good idea, what do you think?

Thats fantastic news, so happy for you. When my GP's had a fungal they got 3 injections. I would hold with gloves on or make sure its only for a short period and wash your hands right way.
Pool seems a good idea as long as he has toys to play with to distract him from biting it. Make sure its high enough not to jump over.

i would say its ok to handle them when they have fungal, as long as you wash your hands after. thats what i do if mine get fungal.
 
What do people think about Daktarin cream for fungal infections?
 
i dont like it because i find it dry, products from gg are much better :)
 
I use their shampoos and melts as well,seems to work well all piggies have lovely coats and no signs of fungals at the moment.
 
Curious what the injection was that fungal pigs were given? Any treatment I've ever used for fungal has been in shampoo or liquid/dip form.

Itching can be different things including mites and lice. Mites are definitely most common - would treat for these before anything else using ivermectin (from the vet).

You can hold the piggy when it has fungal unless there are open sores and then it's likely to be uncomfortable. Ringworm is a fungal infection (though not as common) that can be transmitted to humans so it's always best to make sure you scrub your hands after handling.
 
am so glad you got your piggy :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: what made your hubby change his mind? i would hold him as long as it doesn't hurt dimple, bit always wash your hands before and afterwards. especially with your small child. reall happy for you and hope you and piggy have a long happy life together. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: have been following your threads with interest. good for you you got your piggy and didn't lose hubby's respect!
