Tonight when I lifted one of my piggies out of there run to put them in there hutch for the night he started twitching and breathing seemed a little laboured in noise.
By time I put him in hutch he was dragging himself and then moving about flopping on his side, looked like a fit/seizure.
It has been a warm day today but he has been in a sheltered run with water and some food available.
He laid on his tummy for some time and really thought he looked like he was going to pass out. Within 10mins or so he sat nibbling some greens but not moving about.
What are people's opinions on this? Could this be heat stroke?
These are my first piggies and concerned what this could be.

It could be especially as his breathing was laboured. They can also have small fits and TIAs too though. He will need to see a vet as soon as possible for official diagnosis as if it is heatstroke he may need diuretics and also rehydration and cooling down.

Sorry what are TIAs?
I can't imagine it was heatstroke as he has been in sheltered shade but then it has been a hot day.

Another possibility is a fit due to a skin problem, whether it be mange mites or fungal. Has he ever had any skin issues?

I agree. Whatever is causing this, a vet needs to see him asap. Keep us posted. x

I intended on taking him to our vets this morning but sadly he has died over night.
I had to work yesterday and was the earliest opportunity I had to get him go the vets.
So sudden and only a young piggie, 1.5 years.
I am now left with just my one little boar and desperately want him to have a companion but unsure how to go about this as I understand pairing male piggies is a harder task than the girlies.
Is it best to only attempt to bond one other male with him or two?
A friend has a successful trio and mentioned getting a pair to go with him but really don't want there to be any problems. What are people's views and advice on bonding another male(s) together? Thanks

I would say if you notice such a thing then get him to the vet ASAP, the same day if possible. Mine was twitching earlier this week but I thought it might be fleas and it was time for all their monthly spray anyways. Today he had noticeable laboured breathing and I could hear a 'tick' every time he did, as well as his body pulsating with his heartbeat and him all fluffed up and extremely lethargic. I just took him to the emergency vet now and they said it was a very serious abdominal infection and he nearly died so he's on oxygen and they told me that there is risk he probably won't make it so it's touch an go..

I'm sorry he passed away. RIP little guy.

I wouldn't pair him with two males as its very hard to bond a trio.

My suggestion would be to either neuter him and get a girl as bonding is a lot easier or to try and go with an elder piggie whose passed hormonal age or a baby.

So sorry to hear this,
run free little one xo

Don't jinx or speak too soon! I have not received a call from the Hospital yet so AFAIK he is still alive! He is on oxygen and the nurse told me he appeared slightly better than before I left. Hope he makes it as he is everyone's favourite piggy and I don't want his girlfriend, Rebecca, to end up a depressed widow all her life..

Ah I didn't mean yours. I meant the poster who created this topic. She said her piggie passed away.

I hope yours will be okay. x
