one of my guinea pigs has been having “episodes”. he’s a rescue and was abandoned so we don’t know if this has been going on for a while or not. i’ve done some research but i can’t find anything about medication for this. i wanted to take him to the vet but i don’t this there’s anything they can do and i think it will just stress him out. is there anything i can do for him? i’m just so upset 😢

If you suspect your piggy is having seizures you should take him straight to the vet, if he's a rescue piggy and you have no background info a vet check would be in order anyway even if he appears well. There are some treatable conditions that can cause seizures, such as mange mites, and ear infections can also present with neurological type symptoms. Also some normal piggy behaviours can look like seizures until you get used to them! So best get piggy to the vet who can give him a thorough hands on examination, especially if he has missed out on routine vet care for most of his life so far x

okay my mums a vet and she couldn’t find anything wrong with him but her medical books are probably a bit outdated so i’ll take him to the vet when i can

i would take him to a cavy savvy vet. They can do a general health check and then you can see where to go from there.

PS we don’t recommend home treating. It’s always best to get a (exotic) vet to diagnose a problem and prescribe medication.

he’s been holding his head wonkily so we think it’s either something to do with his jaw or an earinfection. we gave him some meds and well be taking him to the vets tomorrow.

Let us know what they say. And remember to tell the vet what medicine you’ve given him.
