Good morning everyone

My 6 year old piggy Blossom is producing rather small poops but has for months now. Is this normal?

She’s still eating lots and drinking and seems ok in herself. Interested in things and squeaking for food etc. She’s starting to get bonier like my other seniors. My old Guinea had arthritis and was pulling her fur out but there are no signs of this at all. Just wondering if the small poop is normal? 💩it seems to be getting smaller.

Shorter than normal poops can suggest pain towards the back end but not gut related. Arthritis in the back end would be a possible consideration for this.

Thinner than normal poops mean a piggy is not eating eating enough.

Ensure you are weighing her weekly as part of routine care so you can be certain she is eating enough hay - it can be a good idea to weigh older piggies a little more often than that if you are worried though

I would also suggest you see a vet for a general check up (a good idea once they get older anyway) but in case she is experiencing any discomfort from arthritis

I hope she is ok

Do you have any pictures?
also do you weight her regularly? as sometimes i find it looks like they are eating but only their weight tells the full story.
She is a good age, I notice that seems to be when they start losing their puppy fat lol x

I’m taking her to the vets tonight so I will let you know how I get on 😊 I suspect arthritis but fingers crossed it’s something else. She’s definitely lost some weight but eating like a horse 🐴

I will take some poop samples (although she may well poop on the way but you never know!) 😂

Hi

Please switch to weighing daily. Thinner poos usually mean less hay intake while shorter poos can indicate a pain issue somewhere in the lower body, including arthritis that affected the area where they are pushed out.
