Junior Guinea Pig
I have two female piggies with a neutered boar. Last January I adopted another sow. She was part of a big group so I didn’t think I’d have any trouble bonding (I haven’t in the last when I’ve introduced piggies to the group).
Anyway, it went horribly so Missy had to stay separate. Most of the time she seems fine in her pen close to theirs.
When I stayed at my parents, they were in a pen joined down the centre. Other than sniffs through the bars they seemed pretty happy. Which was good as previously there had been some swiping and lots of biting at the bars. I’m pretty certain Missy ended up with a nasty scratch on her nose as a result. As it seemed better, I thought I’d try this at home again.
Of course, as soon as I create a join (only a single C&C section width, Missy is chewing at the bars straight away and Molly is chattering her teeth.
After almost an hour, it has calmed down, for now at least. My question is, do I leave the cages conjoined with some space for interaction, or should I separate them again?
I’ve not adopted another friend for Missy because I fear there being another rejection and it being even more difficult than it is now (I have no living room floor, it’s all devoted to the piggies). She seems happy and is often popcorning and running about so seems pretty content as she is. She gets bonus attention too.
