Morning all,

with Odin sick at the moment, his brother has taken to constant mounting and harassing him. Poor Odin doesn’t move from the spot, he just squeals and squeaks for him to get off.
I’m worried about separating them as they have always lived together and may not go back?

It is correct that if you separate them for a medical reason then there is a risk they won’t go back together.
i would leave them together, stress of separation alone won’t do him any favours.
Mounting, while it can get annoying if he is feeling under the weather, isn’t going to hurt him, particularly as odin’s issue is dental. Is Odin submissive or the dominant? The squeaking could just be submission squealing.

Odin used to be the dominant one but at the moment he is submissive to his brother mounting him. He used to chatter back and warn him off, but now just squeals. Throughout the day I keep them in a bigger space with lots of separate hides to move in and out of, so Odin can have his own if he wishes.
same at night, back in their cage but two sleeping areas. Odin has a small one that if he’s inside it, his brother can’t get in to mount him. He can only sit in the entrance with him.

I agree with Piggies&Buns re keeping them together. Separating could cause more stress for Odin that the ‘constant mounting’.

Odin feels like he is currently not able to defend his leadership so he is submission squealing. The dominance will stop once his mate is feeling OK with taking over. Every group needs a leader; if the existing one is not well enough then another group member has to take over by default. If the bond is a stable and caring one, it will be as mild as possible.
