Going to be taking 3 pigs on a 3 hour car trip.
Their first holiday! They NEVER snuggle or sleep together, and like their own space in a big c and c cage - but the last time separated a couple of years ago, one of them was hysterical, so if one needs the vet they all go.

I have a good size plastic, cat carrier for the car (60x35cm), but I think they'll hate being so close to each other for so long. And maybe too warm even with air con. The boar is a huge 1.6kg. I'm wondering about putting them in 3 small carriers but not sure if they'll freak being apart.

I'll be needing to drive and support my autistic son for the journey, so want the pigs to be happy to prevent frayed nerves...

My three bickered a lot when then had their second journey (first since coming home from the rescue) in the carrier, but top-pig was in season! Since then they’ve been fine.

Would you be able to take a second carrier incase they get tetchy and you need to give them a bit of space?

Are you able to trial putting them all in the same one for a while - when you’re at home to supervise, or separating them all in the carriers you’ll use and see which they prefer ?

do you have air-con?

Our two girls aren't cuddly at home unless there's any kind of deadly threat (like a hand bearing hay ). But if we're going anywhere they go in a cat carrier together and seem happy enough.

Is it possible for you to go on a trial drive, just you and the pigs? So you can find out how they get on without the added pressure of supporting your son as well (I keep reading that back and thinking it sounds really harsh - but its meant kindly in that its a way to remove one of the sources of stress so you can focus all of your attention where its needed when you're actually going away)? I'd tend to think that if they're good together for an hour then they'll be OK for a longer journey - especially if you have air-con.

That's a good idea to just take a spare carrier in case of bickering that yours treated you to :-) Thanks.

Thanks, yes we have air con. They're fine together going to the vet but they're usually in a state of vet panic and I wondered how they'd be when that wears off :-) Hopefully they'll be like your two.
