Hi ,
My 2 male guinea pigs have been chattering there teeth at each other ( particularly the more dominant one) and have had their first fight.Thankfully, neither of them were injured, as they finally stopped with distraction . However, they have continued to "argue" all day but it is different that usual . The least dominant one is minding his own business while the more dominant one chatters his teeth and sticks up his fur. I decided to separate them overnight because it seems like they may fight agin if I am not able to distract them and I don't want it to be more serious than last time. I was wondering if the pet carrier I have is big enough for one of them to sleep in over night with hay and vegetables that have a high water content. It is the medium sized pet carrier from pets at home.

Thanks

The pet carrier will do for the night. How old are your boys?

Please heed our tips when trying a reintroduction.

Ok thank you ,they are 7 months old .

That is the time when the hormone output is at its highest. You may find it better to wait until Sunday until the hormone spike has had time to settle down before staging re-introductions.

Have you got a run that you have indoors as well as outdoors? It is great to provide extra space for getting rid of some extra energy (whether that is as a pair or singly) and to serve as home from home in an emergency.

Keep the boys next to each other overnight so they are still in contact.

Ok , I don't have a run at the moment ( was going to wait until after winter to purchase one ) but I think I'm going to look for an indoor one tommorow . Thanks for the advice !

You can get a run that goes for both outdoors and indoors, but in that case, you'd better get some cheap plastic sheeting or a cheap plastic shower curtain to protect the floor. Get a cheap acrylic fleece bedspread to place above for grip (always wash fleece without softener, so it wicks the pee away from the surface.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry that your boys are being mischievous, it must be quite stressful for you. I've never had boars in pairs so can't really advise much but you've had some great advice already so hopefully the boys will go back together without too much fighting
